Sen. JD Vance, the Republican vice presidential candidate, on Wednesday attempted to confront Vice President Kamala Harris after the two converged on the same Wisconsin airport at the same time.

“I just wanted to check out my future plane,” Vance, R-Ohio, told reporters traveling with him after walking towards Air Force Two. “But I also wanted to go say hello to the Vice President and ask her …why does she refuse to answer questions from the media?”

Vance and Harris were both in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, for dueling events.

Although he walked towards Air Force Two, Vance said he did not speak or see Harris. Harris’ motorcade drove away as Vance walked over.

The tweet implies that it was more than just "protocol" being broken, but I tend to agree that without a clear indication to step back, no law actually was broken.

Still, I wouldn't be unsurprised if the detail received some extra "training" on the importance of maintaining the perimeter.

I agree. It just chaps my ass when they say stupid shit like reporting they were trying to physically get on AF 2.

At least two other media described the incident as JD Vance walking directly towards Air Force 2 before abruptly turning and then walking toward the media. They both interpreted the event as appearing as though he intended to actually go to the plane before changing direction. It's hard to tell in the video, it didn't really look in the video that way, but now at least three reporters described it as though he showed intention of going to the plane before changing his mind.

I think part of it is that they are still trying to take these weird phoneys at their word -- Vance clearly implied his *intent* was to get on board and look around. They are taking them both literally and seriously for all their stunts instead of showing a modicum of discretion about what is meant as an actual statement of policy and what is instead a weird, sad, little clown stunt.
