Really good show this morning on 1A about VP pick (I guess I should xpost it there).

Good discussion of what difference - if any - a VP pick makes. Interesting comments from listeners. A lot of discussion about the need for Harris to pick a "moderate" candidate to "balance" her (although I think of her as moderate, but idk what the common wisdom is about her). There was discussion that the notion of a VP pick bringing voters from a geographic area is not as compelling as it once was (LBJ was probably the last good example I think they said). One caller said she'd voted for Trump in 2016 only because he'd picked Pence.

Then most interestingly, to me at least, is a discussion about what the sought-after "moderate" voter even is. Is it policy? Is it pragmatism? Is it an undecided person? The pragmatist take really resonated with me. While I'd personally probably be "liberal," I also know I'll never in a million years get everything I want in a candidate or policy. I'm in the camp who, as they say, work to get 60% of the loaf which is better than 0%. Not as good at 100%, but at least I get to eat. So am I a "moderate" in that respect? Maybe?

I lose track of what's been posted here and what I've seen on Twitter. Anyway, the Evangelicals for Harris made a video basically stating that Trump was not Christian. They used footage from Billy Graham. Naturally Franklin Graham, Billy's son and a big Trump supporter, was incensed at that. Franklin's niece is the one now who spoke up and supported the Evangelicals for Harris.

A recent Evangelicals for Harris ad featured the late Billy Graham challenging on audience on whether they have prayed: “Lord, I have sinned. I'm sorry for my sin. I'm willing to change my way of life."

It then cut to footage of Trump in 2015, who, when asked if he had ever sought God’s forgiveness, said: “I am not sure I have. I just go on and try to do a better job from there. I don't think so. I think if I do something wrong, I think, I just try and make it right. I don't bring God into that picture. I don't."

Franklin Graham posted on X: “The liberals are using anything and everything they can to promote candidate Harris. They even developed a political ad trying to use my father’s image. They are trying to mislead people.

“Maybe they don’t know that my father appreciated the conservative values and policies of President @realDonaldTrump in 2016, and if he were alive today, my father’s views and opinions would not have changed.”

There has been a Billy Graham disaster relief truck parked at a local grocery store ever since the flood. The truck is quite large. There are also two trailers belonging to the same organization that are parked less than a block away. There are several other transient Christian organizations represented in my community as well. The BG vehicles just sit there. From what I can gather from FB, this organization is there so you can come over and say a prayer or have a minister soothe your anxiety. Of course donations are expected. The other Christian organizations have volunteers who actually roll up their sleeves and pitch in and help with the cleanup.

IMO Franklin Graham belongs to that group Christian TV grifters. Nothing more. Nothing less.

The Democratic National Convention (DNC) has dominated the news and cable television all week, and was capped off Thursday night by a widely-praised acceptance speech by Vice President Kamala Harris. As CNN’s Chris Wallace noted this week, the Democratic gathering swamped former President Donald Trump’s RNC in the ratings.

But within those ratings, Bolling saw a sign in the fact that normally dominant Fox News has been getting beaten by MSNBC during the convention.

A dozen Republican White House lawyers who served in the administrations of then-Presidents Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush are endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris in her race against GOP nominee former President Donald Trump.

"We endorse Kamala Harris and support her election as President because we believe that returning former President Trump to office would threaten American democracy and undermine the rule of law in our country," the lawyers wrote in a letter that the signatories shared first with Fox News Digital.

The letter was released on Friday, the day after Harris delivered her nomination acceptance speech in the culminating moment of the Democratic National Convention, which was held in Chicago.

I was scratching my head when I saw that the Harris campaign wants to change the original terms of the ABC debate which had been negotiated with Biden. One of those things was muting the mic of the person not speaking. I figured they wanted to keep Trump from interrupting Biden or talking over him or yammering on and on. So why would Harris's team want to change that?

“We have told ABC and other networks seeking to host a possible October debate that we believe both candidates’ mics should be live throughout the full broadcast,” BRIAN FALLON, the Harris campaign’s senior adviser for communications, told Playbook in a text message last night, confirming our reporting. “Our understanding is that Trump’s handlers prefer the muted microphone because they don’t think their candidate can act presidential for 90 minutes on his own. We suspect Trump’s team has not even told their boss about this dispute because it would be too embarrassing to admit they don’t think he can handle himself against Vice President Harris without the benefit of a mute button.”
