I wonder if the change in altitude has any effect on tire pressure.

Very minor if any. Any aircraft that flies at an altitude that can cause icing the tires are filled with dry nitrogen. As an inert gas it takes a serious swing of temperature changes for it's pressures to change in any serious manner.

Can that be the reason for using nitrogen? Perhaps I am misremembering basic physics, but the volumetric change or pressure change of gases with temperature is independent of the specific gas, whether inert, almost inert (as nitrogen), or ordinarily reactive. However, using a dry gas would reduce effects of water vapor doing odd things. And temperatures are not low enough to cause liquefaction of atmospheric gases, even carbon dioxide needs -78C to sublime.

Roger Allan Holmberg, a Williamsburg pastor, is facing a federal charge after he allegedly hit his wife in the head during a flight when she got upgraded to first class and he didn't.

An American Airlines flight was evacuated after the crew reported smoke in the cabin while the plane was parked at its gate at San Francisco International Airport, according to airport officials.

The airline said the smoke came from a laptop in a passenger's bag.

Jan Jankai, a passenger on the flight with his father, told ABC News when they boarded the plane, "it smelled like burned cables" and proceeded to get stronger.

Soon after, Jankai said they saw a huge flame from below his father's seat and on all sides. He said the smoke got so intense "We thought we would pass out."

"We tried to get up but were already buckled in," Jankai said, adding he and his father quickly unbuckled their seats and tried to go to the back emergency exit.

Jankai's father, who was seated above the passenger's bag that was on fire, said he threw the bag out of the emergency exit door.

No doubt Jankei's Father will be sued by the person who owned the Laptop for theft and loss of data.

And of course people NEED the makeup and Evian Water in their onboard bags, so its ok for them to stand in Lithium smoke. Which is extremely Toxic. And block everyone else trying to get out.

A UK flight headed for Italy was forced to make an emergency stop in Germany after a young child suffered most severe type of burns from a cup of tea.

The young boy, aged nine, had been enjoying his hot beverage on flight from London.

But after he accidentally spilled drink upon himself his burns were so severe the plane had to make an emergency stop at Allgäu Airport in Memmingen, 73 miles outside of Munich in the southern German state of Bavaria.

The boy was then rushed to hospital by rescue helicopter, which doctors confirmed he had third degree burns.

After the stopover, the plane finally took off again at around 11 am and landed at its actual destination of Brindisi in southern Italy at around 12.30 pm, a good hour and a half late.
