I know everyone loved his two TV shows but I think my favorite character of his was Professor Proton on Big Bang theory. Especially after the character passed and became Sheldon's Obi-Wan Kenobi. I'd laugh so hard, I'd hurt myself.

Saw him perform here in Las Vegas years ago. So, so brilliantly funny. I have a bunch of his CDs and my girls and I listened to them on a car trip in 2003. They loved him, too. His routine about King Kong was hilarious. "My jurisdiction only goes up to his navel."

Bob Newhart had a periodic recurring role on The Big Bang Theory a while back. Every time he walked on set the studio audience cheered. I'm assuming many of the people in the audience weren't around for The Bob Newhart Show or Newhart but everybody seems to know him. I was a bit surprised when I looked him up on IMDB that he only has 45 acting credits. Of course, 2 of those credits account for 326 TV episodes.

He will be missed.

I remember meeting Dr. Ruth ~30 years ago. I was presenting on the evolution of technology at the American Booksellers' Association conference for the publisher of the For Dummies books. It was always a dream of mine as a lifelong bookworm to get to go to ABA because of all the free books they give out.

She was in the audience because they were signing her up for "Sex for Dummies," the first non-computer title in that wildly popular book line. After the talk, the PR people had her come up to meet with all the speakers, including me. She was incredibly short, incredibly nice, and someone you would trust to teach you about sex, even though she was anything but sexy. Although it was brief, it was one of the more fun celebrity meet-and-greets I've had over the years.

NEW YORK (AP) — Peter Buxtun, the whistleblower who revealed that the U.S. government allowed hundreds of Black men in rural Alabama to go untreated for syphilis in what became known as the Tuskegee study, has died. He was 86.

Buxtun died May 18 of Alzheimer’s disease in Rocklin, California, according to his attorney, Minna Fernan.
