Local Fire Department parade just starting.

Mrs. V and I are listening to it from the porch. Too hot to walk over to the main street.

Nine turkeys have taken refuge from the noise, fire engines and people on our Circle.

Bell lyre and drum corp playing "Yellow Submarine".

"Battle Hymn of the Republic" now playing.

Sirens and horns on all sides.

Annoyed turkeys gobbling loudly.

Diesel fumes drifting by.

Schools are out.

Vacationers getting a whole week while taking only 4 vacation days are coming out to the North Fork by the thousands.

All but one of the cottages on the Circle are occupied.

Children and dogs fill the Circle. The turkeys have fled.

Our porch is repaired. Just needs painting by our handyman.

Mrs. V has laid in supplies for soon to be visiting younger daughter and grandson.

I saw a turkey in the middle of a lonely Victorian country road today.

It was a bigun. It was frozen and didnt have any feathers. It musta fell off the back of a truck.

Some wine grower or sheep farmer is gonna miss their turkey dinner they were looking forward to.

Last evening at 7:30 pm, my next door neighbor began mowing his lawn, in an obvious mind-meld with the early morning lawn mowers on the North Fork.
Don't mind me, I just fell out of a coconut tree. 🥥🌴

I have to travel a really long way to see our yearly festival parade, about 12 feet to see out the window, or I can go all out and walk down to the porch with a lemonade.

It is a long parade so it's nice to sit on the shade when I do watch.

Mrs.V's sister arrived yesterday from Maine for a week. But-

Sigh.

Mrs.V's DC cousin's husband just tested positive for Covid. They are here staying at their cottage on the Circle with their 2 tween granddaughters. He is fully vaccinated. His wife and granddaughters are getting tested.

Yesterday evening they were all over at our cottage playing board games with us, our 2 visiting friends from Texas and Mrs.V's older brother.

Our Texas friends are supposed to leave tomorrow for Manhattan for a few days and then fly home. Hope they stay healthy.

South Fork.

Today Trump is attending a fundraiser on the South Fork. Police are warning there will be major traffic disruptions over and above the usual massively heavy summer Friday traffic.

My guess is that South Forkers will attempt to avoid this by driving out on the North Fork and taking the Shelter Island ferries to the eastern end of the South Fork.

Trump's ears will be burning this afternoon. ;)

Local Oldies radio station is making watch out for Trump jokes with its South Fork listeners.

Oldies station news just reported that South Forkers should avoid local roads this afternoon and evening.

There are only two roads that run from the westernmost South Fork to the rest of the South Fork.

Every summer Friday afternoon and evening SF weekenders from up Island and NYC jam these roads.

Trump may lose votes.

Local radio reporting that even though Trump has not yet arrived on the South Fork traffic is at a standstill.

Oldies radio news just reported on the parts of the South Fork affected. After reading the list of affected hamlets he quipped "so, the entire South Fork". ;)

It is very hot and humid today. Cooling centers are open on the North Fork.

Town beaches that normally close at 5 pm will stay open until 7 pm.

South Fork traffic is the big news this afternoon.

Accidents are making the problem worse.

Radio reminding listeners that details about Trump-related road closures are not being released for security reasons. Suggests staying off of the South Fork this afternoon and evening.

Today is normally the busiest SF traffic day of the summer as August vacationers arrive.

There are only 2 roads that cross the Shinnecock Canal on the South Fork. The radio is reporting that the main road is closed westbound and the small road is jammed. All the commuters who work on the South Fork but live up Island are trapped now at the height of rush hour.

Meanwhile the usual Friday
eastbound traffic onto the SF is blocked west of the Gabreski Airport where Trump will arrive.

Folks who don't follow the news must be in shock.

SF restaurants and bars must be wondering why their Friday evening workers can't get there on one of the busiest evenings of the summer.

Radio reports that the main SF road Rt 27 is closed in both directions between the Gabreski Airport and the Shinnecock Canal.

Radio traffic reporter is clearly over stressed and talking about the stupidity of the people who scheduled Trump's visit for a summer Friday evening.

Crazy.

Radio reports that all side roads along Rt 27 are jammed. No one who is not Trump can get thru.
