My grandmother's store was about 10 miles from the MS state line. Right in the corner of the boot (by Amite Co).

My uncle's was all the way down to the coast at Kiln DeLisle. 90% of his stock was 50 lb bags of sugar and corn.

My grandmother had salt licks, nails, ice cream, cold drinks, canned goods, cigarettes, gas, deli meat we had to cut with a big ol' knife, cookies you could get for 5¢ apiece, dog food, "sweet" milk (as opposed to buttermilk), giant room-sized rolls of linoleum. All kinds of penny candy, which was awesome for a kid.

Wow, that's awesome. My dad was in the Navy, we moved to a different place every other year, I have 4 siblings and we were all born in different cities (myself and 3 others in California, a brother in Rhode Island). We never went to the same store for more than a year or two, and then gone to the next Navy base!

Wild pigs would get drunk on the mash and chase people. My mother is terrified of pigs to this good day. The 'shiners would have literal shoot-outs in the street in front of the store arguing over who was going to buy the sugar. Fun times!

Pretty remote place...the "suburbs" of Pass Christian and that's saying something! That sugar and corn was getting sold for sure! No pesky law back up in the swamps.

I'm watching "American Rust" on Prime.

Lots of drahmah. Lots and lots of drahmah. Small town in PA drahmah. Four cops on rotation small town drahmah. The chief of police kanoodling the prime suspect's mother in a small town drahmah. A mother who is not divorced from her high school sweetheart who has matriculated to the small town bad boy drahmah.

Lots more drahmah than criminaling.

Two seasons. I'm through S1E2.

(24hrs later) ETA: Yeah. Lots of drahmah, and lots of kanoodling. Not much criming going on.

Ruthless People and My Big Fat Greek Wedding.

My sister from Seattle was visiting recently and Ruthless People came up in discussion. I looked online to see if I subscribed to a service which included it. No. But I could rent it. But then I realized that my husband and I probably bought it years ago because we loved that movie. So my sister looked through the DVDs upstairs and I looked through the ones in the basement. Success! Of course we had it. While my sister was looking through the DVDs upstairs, she ran across My Big Fat Greek Wedding. Like many of our DVDs, we had bought it but never watched it. My sister watched it with her wife when it first came out and, as her wife was of Greek descent, my SIL had a running commentary during the whole movie. So, of course, we had to watch both movies.

A great movie night!

"My Big Fat Greek Wedding" is one of my favorite movies (I have the DVD too). It has 2 sequels, and they both are equally funny, using many of the original cast members; if you enjoyed the original you should like the sequels too.

Just finished Responder on Britbox. 2 seasons

If you like super dark cop shows with a lot of messed up people, it's excellent. Even if you don't like that genre, it's excellent. Martin Freeman is amazing. Recommend closed captions as Scouse is thick.

I watched The Outsider Season 1 on MAX. Stephen King has said they are going to do a second season. I'm not familiar with the original Stephen King material, but I liked the tv adaptation.

Also watching House of the Dragon Season 2, I'm really liking it. So far there has been one good dragon battle, I won't give any spoilers. The character development is interesting, particularly Daemon Targaryen, he's at Harrenhal almost the whole season, hallucinating with the help of Alys Rivers and the weir wood bed he sleeps in at night. Fun stuff.

I also watched Shogun on Hulu, that was excellent

I wasn't very much interested in watching Interview wit the Vampire, but recently decided to give it a try, so I am only on Season 1. I am a couple episodes in and enjoying it so far.

I'm happy you enjoyed my brother Hiroyuki Sanada in Shogun! I'm so proud of him. We've been close friends since 1994 and this is a perfect role and opportunity for him. The show's already been renewed for Seasons 2 and 3!

Glad you're liking Vampire -- Season 2 is tighter and masterful, I think you'll see the difference. With all the COVID/strike stuff, they ended up having to split the first book into 2 parts. Season 3 (which is shooting) moves to The Vampire Lestat book, and that's an even better story (and Lestat gets tons more screen time, the first two seasons were not from his perspective).

Wow. While looking for a Mary Tyler Moore episode that came to mind in the Harris VP topic, I found a 20-minute documentary I'd never even heard of. It's the making of the Season 4 opening credits refresh for the Mary Tyler Moore Show. A local news show in Minneapolis got permission to film it, two 14-hour days with Mary, Valerie, Jim Brooks, Grant Tinker & Co. It's all there, creating the shots washing the car, the ducks... it was so fun. The clothes and hair! You won't watch the opening credits the same way after seeing it (if you're a MTM show fan).
