Yeah, it's not over yet. The doctor threw up his hands and said that he has bounced back so many times already, he could go either way at this point.

I'd still like to know how he got COVID-19 in a skilled nursing facility. It isn't like he's been carousing the nightclubs without a mask. I take way more risks than he does and I've never seen a symptom. But that will remain a mystery. The entire staff is tested, and nobody was positive, before or after he got it. Heck, it might have come from one of my sisters visiting. I dunno.

But as good as the care they're giving him, ol' Wifehorn could do better all by herself. Okay, I help too also. Remember, we took care of both her parents through their deaths, and we know what to do. But there's no chance of moving him down here now, he's just too weak for traveling. He's getting the best care from the SNF, but it's frustrating because we think we could do better, but we can't go live in a hotel in Bathysphere, Maryland for weeks on end.

So all I can do is read my sister's texts on how he's doing. If he improves enough to talk on the phone, she'll call us. Beyond that, I'm powerless to influence the course of events. :(
The more I learn about this planet, the more improbable it all seems. :confuzzled:

He's gone, between dinner and dessert tonight he simply stopped, which is exactly what he wanted. I'm sad and relieved. Events will become clearer over the next few days. No need to console me, I'm going to focus on being happy for him. I love y'all but I shall be AFK for a little while now. .

My mom went in the same way, and I had the same emotions. Take care of yourselves. I'm sorry for your loss. :bighug:

I'm doing okay. I'm super proud of what we did over the last 10 or 15 years to take care of him. My fambly would descend on his apartment and suddenly there were 5 people in the joint, and he loved every minute of it. We'd be cooking for him and fixing anything broken, play board games, watch the Tee Vee ... and then we'd take him out on adventures in our car. Last Christmas we spent a whole day at the US Naval Academy with him, visiting his parents' graveside and looking at his listing on the Sports Hall of Fame there. And re-living his childhood.

We did the deed and helped him on his journey, and I feel good about that.

I'll be honest, I don't miss my alcoholic mom even a little bit. If she was still around, I would never have had the chance to build the relationship with my dad that I did manage to build. I talked to him yesterday and told him we were coming up next week, and he was excited to see us. We weren't just fambly, we were friends. My wife became his best friend.

But he was living such a limited life lately. He couldn't even feed himself, or stand up. For his sake, I'm glad it's over. That's a nightmare existence.

Today we'll learn about the arrangements. We won't have a lot of influence on that, but I'm ready with photos and a eulogy. I'm not gonna talk about this past 20 years when he got old. I'm gonna tell people what he was like as a young man. I'm the only one who can tell that story, and the working title is "Motorboats and Convertibles", two of the constants of my childhood.

It's a glorious day in May. :towel: ❤️
