An article from the Chicago SunTimes about a woman with terminal cancer taking in refugees from Venezuela who were sleeping on the floor at a Chicago suburb police station. The refugees had been bused to Chicago from Texas. -

He knows, he just does not care. Once they are sent off then the purpose of the trip is fulfilled, namely propoganda and "revenge." It does not matter to him what happens after that.

I mean, it also shows his lack of creativity and knowledge of international law. I think the Biden Administration would let the Mexican government charge him with murder and then extradite him.

They really are quite cruel.

Texas National Guard are the ones that seized the park and kicked out the Feds. Who are politely staying away to avoid a confrontation. For better or worse.

Border Patrol has pulled resources to avoid a confrontation.

Too bad those kids weren't in the womb, then they would've been protected. These fucking hypocrite Texas RWNJs from Paxton to Abbott are complete, utter sociopaths and should be prosecuted.

Fat chance.

Texas sucks and the U.S. would be well rid of it.

Texas' floating U.S-Mexico border barrier can remain, court rules in reversal

January 17, 2024 / 3:07 PM CST / AP

A federal appeals court on Wednesday reversed an order requiring Texas to move a floating barrier on the Rio Grande that drew backlash from Mexico — the latest development in legal battles between the Biden administration and Texas Republican Gov. Greg Abbott over control of migration at the border.

In December, a divided panel of the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals had sided with a federal district judge in Texas who said the buoys must be moved. On Wednesday, the court vacated the panel's 2-1 ruling after a majority of its 17 active judges voted to rehear the case.

The series of linked, concrete-anchored buoys stretches roughly the length of three soccer fields. The state installed it along the international border with Mexico between the Texas border city of Eagle Pass and Piedras Negras, Coahuila.

The barrier is one focal point in the legal disputes over border control between Democratic President Joe Biden and Abbott. The Biden administration also is fighting for the right to cut razor-wire fencing at the border and for access to a city park at the border that the state fenced off.

To be clear, the 5th voted to rehear the case en banc; it hasn't ruled en banc yet. It doesn't appear the 5th released the vote count, and it also doesn't appear any judge dissented "issued a statement."

But the vote to rehear vacated the panel's ruling, so the case returns to status quo, meaning Texas isn't enjoined from using its buoys.

Arguments will be held in May.

I'm not surprised the Chief voted to vacate the injunction, but Barrett's vote does somewhat surprise me.

But there has been chatter that Barrett is increasingly SCOTUS' decider-maker. That is, there's a fairly predictable 4-3 split for close cases. If the liberal branch can convince the Chief to join, it falls to Barrett to create a majority.

"For completeness," there were no dissents/"statements" regarding this application.

I'm curious what the full 5th will (or even can) do.
