I've watched the whole series. I was a real Poe fan in grade school through Scholastic Books. It takes plot elements from many Poe stories, including The Telltale Heart, The Black Cat, and The Cask of Amontillado, among others.
I liked it.

Netflix - Rebel Moon is a mashup of a spaghetti western, Seven Samurai, Star Wars, and Laura Croft-Tomb Raider. Target demo is adolescent boys heavy into first person shooter video games. Strong female lead as a well trained impossibly agile warrior who just wants to live in peace on a farming planet, but some assholes from space have drawn her back into her old life. Too bad for them. If you pour a tiny dram for every shot fired, you might make it to the end of the flick, and still be able to walk unassisted.

Wait, did Neon recommend that show to you? He's our family member in that demoTarget demo is adolescent boys heavy into first person shooter video games
Have been on a black and white movie kick, started with the old Bela Lugosi films (what a life he led, some fascinating documentaries about him, and have listened to some interesting audiobooks). Have enjoyed some of the old black-and-white thrillers, haven't seen many of them... grew up with Vincent Price's grandson and enjoy seeing more of his films. Tubi has tons of good movies and Kanopy's catalog is extensive. About to watch The Blue Lamp, 1950, 1hr 24min (An immensely popular British crime film, THE BLUE LAMP was scripted by ex-policeman T.E.B. Clarke (The Lavender Hill Mob) and directed by the great Basil Dearden (Dead of Night). This classic film noir concentrates on interrelated episodes in the lives of several London policemen.) on Kanopy.
Neon reminded me that Season 3 of South Korea's SINGLES INFERNO is on Netflix now, watched a bit of it and it's cute. Koreans are so shy and charming. And great hearing about the renewal of Season 6 of Too Hot To Handle!
Give Too Hot to Handle your tired, your cash poor, and your horned up masses, because Season 6 is right on the horizon. Since the series launched in 2020, unsuspecting hotties have been lured into a sex-free vacation under the guise of completely different and totally fake dating shows like Pleasure Island and Love Overboard. Producers have gone to extreme lengths to keep the truth about the experiment’s rigid, zero-contact rules under wraps by tricking the singles into thinking they’ll be partaking in the ultimate party in paradise.
Season after season, we’ve watched as cast members react in shock, awe, and panic sweats after discovering that they must instead live without physical intimacy and under the watchful eye of the robot sex cop named Lana. But all that’s about to change when Season 6 rolls around, as Lana is going public for first time ever with an open casting call for serial daters looking to test their limits.
“I have updated my software and I now have new and improved techniques to help serial daters learn how to form meaningful relationships,” says Lana. “Do you want to apply to join me on my beautiful retreat as I put you and your connections to the test to win $200,000? Warning: I have eyes everywhere. Goodbye.”

My take exactly. It's a two parter, 2nd part drops in March or something.

Binging Oz (the prison series).
But Saturdays and Sundays when I watch during the day, I do old movies, usually on TCM. Today* was Meet John Doe. Barbara Stanwyck is such an amazing actress. I have a watchlist on Kanopy, too, mostly documentaries.
*Today I also watched a lot of the Ole Miss/Penn St game. My son is an Ole Miss student and he got to go to the game so I know they had a blast. I sent him a lot of memes.

Ha! I proved to my kids with a movie weekend viewing Mifune versus Eastwood that Akira did it first. And that his story elements have become fundamental. They can be done right. More often they are done wrong. Then the "new" movie comes off as derivative and predictable.

Oh dear. I think I have to mow the lawn that month. It's a two parter, 2nd part drops in March or something.
I hit stop on this dreck at the 59 minute mark, and that was me being generous. I took a break at the 30 minute mark, and had to decide whether to continue. If I could have given it a double thumbs down, I woulda.

Oh no. This streaming algae was all Netflix algo. If you watch action flicks, clearly you will like big boobed cattle horned shark toothed women in black vinyl. The previews are fantastic. You've digested the entire movie in less than sixty seconds. It's very parsimonious with your personal time, but it's also the only kindness they show their audience.Wait, did Neon recommend that show to you? Some of my fave old B&W's:
Mildred Pierce
Now, Voyager
All About Eve
The Postman Always Rings Twice
Some Like It Hot
The Best Years of Our Lives
All the King's Men
Strangers on a Train
The Night of the Hunter
12 Angry Men
Marty
The Third Man
The Apartment
A Place in the Sun
Double Indemnity
Dead Ringer
A Face in the Crowd
These are ones that I've watched over an over when they pop up on my TCM app. You can see I lean toward dramas!
A couple of my old fave color flix that I'll usually turn to when I see they're playing. I've seen them both lots of times. Kinda comfort food with a bonus of architecture porn in the case of A Summer Place. Plus Troy Donahue.

Not one of my faves so I don't watch it over and over. Maybe I need to revisit it. I know it's on every list in the world, though.

I liked it, I was wondering if northland would weigh in on the organ playing. I’m not a musician, I was in awe of the keys, levers, pedals etc. I couldn’t imagine one person keeping track of everything.

The B&W I watch over and over is Anatomy of a Murder. The BEST courtroom drama ever made.

Wow! Thank you all SO MUCH for these recommendations, can't wait to see them! Please keep them coming, it's a terrific resource and imagine lots of people are benefiting from the information.
Volkonski, exactly! Freaks is a wild film. It was on Tubi and had no idea what it would be. After being blown away I did a lot of research on it (heck, y'all know me, when I get researching lol). Watched the two other movies with Daisy and Violet Hilton and looked over their books (it's in archive.org's library), and found several books and audiobooks about the creator/director Tod Browning. He also directed Dracula with Bela Lugosi and that's how I found Freaks.

Henry Krieger has been a lifelong mentor, he wrote Dreamgirls and that's when we met. I was super young and managing members of the Broadway and touring companies. His musical SIDESHOW is about the Hilton Sisters, but the show (and revival) were not during times I was in NYC and around him so I haven't seen it. I keep meaning to call Henry to ask if he has an archival copy, I'd love to see it (or maybe it's around, haven't checked). The girls were singers, here they are with 0:41 / 1:37 Never Fall In Love - Violet and Daisy Hilton
They did two films including Chained for Life (1952) Hilton Sisters- Crime, Drama, Film-Noir. There's a big story about how it happened and how the girls ended up having to pay for all of it.
They were also in The Unholy Three (1925): https://tubitv.com/movies/724096/bound-by-flesh
A documentary about the sisters, Bound By Flesh, is in several parts on YouTube but all together on Tubi: https://tubitv.com/movies/724096/bound-by-flesh
Here's a behind-the-scenes of Freaks. (Just to be clear, there are a lot of opinions about this material and some may find it offensive. It was banned in the UK and many places for years until it was "rediscovered").
It's so cool you brought it up. There was a sort of remake of it in 2007, Freakshow. "In a modern retelling of Tod Browning's "Freaks" (1932), "Freakshow" tells the story of a group of criminals who chose to hide out by working security at a traveling circus."

The authors chronicle Browning's turn-of-the-century flight from an eccentric Louisville family into the world of carnival sideshows (where he began his career literally buried alive) and vaudeville, his disastrous first marriage, his rapid climb to riches in the burgeoning silent film industry, and the alcoholism that would plague him throughout his life. Browning's legendary collaborations with Lon Chaney, Sr., and Bela "Dracula" Lugosi are explored in depth, along with the studio politics that ended his career after the bizarre circus drama Freaks -- a cult classic today -- proved to be one of the biggest box-office disasters of the early thirties.

Remember when the Alien series came out followed by the Predator series, and from that sprang a series of AVP (Alien versus Predator) movies? Well, Netflix just put up Equalizer 3 and John Wick 3 aka Baba Yaga. I'm convinced it's time for a Denzel versus Keanu smackdown - EVB.
Eq3 is pretty good if you're into that. Robert McCall is where he's supposed to be, doing what he's supposed to do, to people that are supposed to receive it. I think he got a bit more frightening in this one. YMMV
Hey! It's got Dakota Fanning in it too. I thought I recognized her. Had to look it up afterwards. That's one nice thing about Amazon Prime Video - it has X-Ray. You can look up the actors immediately during the show. Who is that? (press down arrow on the remote) All the actors in that scene are listed as the show plays, but if you select one, the show pauses while you dive deeper, and returns when you back out. I love that feature. And then when I do it in Netflix or TV out of habit, nothing happens. Pooper scoopers.

NEIL GAIMAN PLEASE TELL THAT AZIRAPHELLE AND CROWLEY WILL BE TOGETHER, I'M TRUMPING WITH THE QUESTION WHEN THEY WILL BE TOGETHER
I'm afraid not. They are barely in it. Crowley dies in the beginning of Season 3 tragically, because of pies, and Aziraphale also dies in Season 3 but hilariously, because of falling in a hole.
The rest of Season 3 is a story about three little rabbits who go to the big city to open a conveyor belt sushi restaurant, and their family's involvement with the East German secret police in the early 1960s.

I haven’t been able to bring myself to watch Good Omens. I’m not a fan of Gaiman’s writing. I really didn’t like American Gods. I grew up in Chattanooga and we used to go to Rock City on school field trips, so you’d think I’d like a story that plays out there. But, alas, nope.
