Our last day of summer is fine. Low 70s. Light breeze. Clear skies.

As yet unnamed storm will end that tonight. :(

Mrs.V and sister lunching in Greenport today while the weather is good.

The cats and I are guarding the porch.

Mrs. V's #2 brother and his wife expected about 3 pm.

The storm has gotten heavier this afternoon.

Mrs. V, her sister, brother and sister in law went up Island today to visit the town where they grew up.

I caught up on my TV watching. ;)

Mrs.V, her brother and SIL headed out for the afternoon to go to one of the nearby wineries and then to the East End Hospice Thrift Shop in Westhampton. I didn't go because thrift stores don't much interest me. Mrs. V buys anything she sees that I might "need" anyway. ;)

Well about 30 minutes after they left I thought I might take a short walk using my roller walker. As I headed out the door one of our cats dashed out between my legs.

I frantically phoned Mrs.V at the winery. Meanwhile the cat was having a fine time outside.

Eventually Mrs. V got home and effortlessly grabbed the cat who by then was halfway around the Circle.

By then the thrift store was near closing so they headed out to the local apple orchard and the ice cream place in Mattituck.

Quite the afternoon. ;)

Weather forecast is threatening us with some of that heavy rain that is still falling in NYC.

Oldies station reporting that high tide may get over their backyard this evening. They are blaming the moon.

Mrs.V's sister has tested positive for Covid.

She is at her summer place in Maine so her usual doctor in California is not available. Guess she will go to an ER.

She and her husband had been planning a trip to Florida to visit his family but that is canceled now.

Mrs. V and I will be getting Covid and flu shots this Monday.

Speaking of the cousin down by the Bay, her two brothers are coming down from upstate this week to close up their cottage which is next to ours. They have great weather to do that.

WOW. Summer again!

Down here on the SWFL coast we are only 84° (cold!!)

Hey, did you hear what happened here yesterday? The Canadian wild fire smoke rode a jetstream down off the Atlantic coast until Florida and then turned and dumped it into our air. Yesterday the skies were all dingy. Advisories went out beforehand to stay indoors if suffering from any respiratory illness. It looked freaky wild. THANKS CANADA. :P

Our last visitor of this season arrives for a long weekend today from Houston. After she leaves on Tuesday we begin the intense process of shutting down for the winter.

Just in the past couple of days the trees have started to turn.

This will be our 3rd rainy weekend in a row. The town's country fair has been delayed a day until Sunday. Apple and pumpkin picking are off to a slow start. They are family activities and so happen mostly on weekends.

If the weather here was good the roads would show red on the traffic maps but as heavy rain approaches the east end roads are green.

Weather forecast to be better tomorrow when we may be overwhelmed by apple pickers. ;)

The rain started later than predicted but it is coming down in buckets now.

Reminds me that several years ago rain started during the country fair causing it to be shut down about 3 PM. What a mess. Everything had to be packed up in the rain. All the vendors and food trucks. The bands. The tents, etc.

The attendees all tried to leave at once so major traffic problems. We found a restaurant and had an early dinner while the traffic cleared.

Mrs.V drove our last visitor to the airport this morning.

Now Mrs. V is at a thrift store near the airport. Probably be a while before she returns. ;)

Our last weekend here promises once again to be a rainy one. :(

Even though we don't leave until Tuesday our handyman is coming tomorrow to help close the shutters and put away outside and porch things while it is still dry.

Since we are leaving almost a month earlier than usual we didn't bother with mums or pumpkins this year. Tree leaves are still mostly green. High today was 69F.

Eight turkeys on our front lawn. As the human inhabitants mostly relocate for winter the wildlife returns.

The weekend traffic is all green here due to the 53F temperature and steady rain. If the sun were out our roads would be red.

Meanwhile in NYC where the rain is heavier the roads
are red. Some roads in Brooklyn and NJ are closed.

We are getting packed and hoping for better weather this coming week to get us out of NY.

Gunshots Reportedly Heard Near Greenport High School: Police
2 callers, one near Greenport High School and another on Shelter Island, called police after hearing the gunshots, authorities say.

https://patch.com/new-york/northfork/gu ... 27b23925a1
A series of gunshots were heard on the North Fork Monday night, police said.

According to Southold Town Police Chief Martin Flatley, at 11:30 p.m., two calls came in, both from people hearing a series of gunshots.

"One of the callers lives north of Greenport High School and said it sounded close; the second was from Shelter Island, and she reported it sounded close to her residence," Flatley said.

Both the Greenport officer and the Shelter Island officer dispatched to the calls reported also hearing the shots — and they felt they were coming from either Shelter Island or from out over the water, Flatley said.

"We could not identify the source of the gunshots," Flatley said.
