In addition to the surf and rip currents warning along the south shore a coastal flood warning has been issued for the north shore of LI from tomorrow evening to Sunday morning. This will be caused by Lee's counter clockwise winds pushing water westward into the Peconic Bays between the Forks and LI Sound between LI and Connecticut.

Low lying areas could get 1 to 3 feet of inundation. Some roads may flood especially on the easternmost ends of the Forks.

Based on previous storms the ferries to Connecticut, Shelter Island and Block Island may stop running.

No, we are closer to the south shore, ie the Bay side, of the North Fork. We are about 1/2 mile north of the Bay and 4 miles south of the Sound.

The South Fork protects the North Fork from Atlantic Ocean surf.

We are high enough here so that even several feet of inundation won't reach us.

Mostly concerned about falling tree branches which could bring down power lines.

It's 69° in the Cities with a north breeze at 8mph. Perfect weather for having windows open, right? Nope. My neighbor two houses north of me loves using his fire pit. I thought it was just in the evenings, which is bad enough, but here it is noon and he's busy stirring it up. So I've had to close the windows on the north side of my house. Dang!

I would gladly trade all your lawnmower noise for my neighbor's smoky, stinky fire pit!

Mrs. V's sister arrives today for 6 days. Mrs. V's #2 brother and his wife arrive Friday for 9 days. A busy end of summer.

Once they are gone it will be time to start shutting down and getting ready to head home.

What's worse than a bunch of lawnmowers?

Driveway resurfacing. Our neighbor to the west is having his driveway reasphalted today.

The noise! The smell!

Mark me down as a supporter of concrete driveways.

The coming storm is causing many event cancellations for the coming weekend. These include big deals like the San Genero Festival. This will be a noticeable economic hit to the east end.

No word yet about the Greenport Harbor Festival on Saturday and Sunday which is a very big deal autumn kick off event. So big that Mrs. V and her sister are planning to avoid greater Greenport this weekend because of the traffic.

When I read this, at first, I thought that you were saying that only you and the cats were bothering Mrs. V and her sister but the lawn mowers were leaving them alone. Then I thought of a different way to read what you wrote.

Giving it some thought, our use of fast professional lawn care services may inspire our neighbors to spend time taking care of their lawns slowly and inefficiently and noisily.

Sounds like fun. Something I go to annually closed early last weekend because of torrential rain. Late summer/early fall. Unpredictable.

Storm coming. Oldies station keeps announcing more North Fork and South Fork cancellations for this weekend.

Just about every outdoor event is canceled. A bad start to the autumn season.

Many vendors and food trucks will be stuck with nowhere to sell their products that they have already bought.
