Thanks, anders. That article is incredible.

Agree that the article is fascinating. But, if all the people in the know knew the sub imploded on Sunday (including James Camaron) , why the countdown on oxygen... Click bait by the news organizations? Or just laziness? Or Hunter Biden's laptop, (isn't that always the answer to any question these days.

All of the above. The countdown clock was particularly stupid. First the figure of a 96 hour supply of oxygen, which under the best of circumstances would have been +/- hours depending on several factors, came from Ocean Gate themselves and we know they lied about almost everything. Also, I never heard whether they had CO2 scrubbers on board so the level of CO2 may have become lethal before they ran out of oxygen. James Cameron said he knew as of Monday the vessel had imploded but felt it was better not to say anything publicly while the search was ongoing.

What I saw was that they said that although the evidence they had was consistent with an implosion, until they had corroborating evidence they treated it as a rescue, in case it was.

I don't think they thought they had a choice.

Good video.

The article confirms what I wrote earlier about Det Norske Veritas: they have many excellent engineers and privileged access to external experts. Those engineers want to get involved with exciting projects, not to scupper them.

Of course a classification society will be a hindrance if the client's intention is to cut corners and take unnecessary risks. But sensible designers welcome external checks on their work.

This sounds like the plot of The Fountainhead. Only not written by Ayn Rand, so at the end all the buildings he built fell down.

I'm pretty much being serious. The whole attitude is the thing that made Rand swoon.

No idea. That symbol pre-dates the nazis by 100+ 10+ centuries.

What John said, and another possibility is that WWII was so long ago, people forget. Not everyone, but more and more people born every day who never learn about it.

I try to inspire Numbah One Son to read history. He has no desire. The tech in WWII was so primitive! Or something. I dunno.

But he wouldn't recognize SS lightning bolts. :blackeye:

The single bolt with an arrow head and tapered shaft is not like the double bolt parallel shafts of the Nazi symbol.

I would argue any person of any age should as many of the Nazi symbols are still used as tattoos. I'd want to know if someone's ink means they're likely a Nazi/white supremacist/whatever.

The both have the same root - a stylized Thunderbolt. That's why the SS chose that particular design afaik.

One thing the Germans had in spades was excellent fashion sense. It's just a good illustration of a bolt of lightning.

This video contains an unconfirmed transcript of the communications with the Titan from the time of launch to loss of comms.

IF this transcript is accurate they probably knew for 20 minutes they were toast.
