Alas, the few days they were filming at Embassy London, I was elsewhere. I was around for a mixer, but since I had already begun my departure phase, I had a lot of work to finish rather than hand off to someone else, so I didn't attend. But my staff were welcomed.

Alas, only half-right on that. But it's just for one year. One of the senior officers there now -- and due to remain there through about year's end -- had been one of my emotional support humans in Bangladesh and she made virtual puppy eyes at me to apply internally for the danger assignment because they 'need' me. So it was my first and only mid-level tour bid. I was given the tentative nod that usually becomes the final deal 3 weeks later.

It will almost certainly be interesting.

Also, ironically, because we bid one year out on assignments, I'll be expected between now and mid-August to make at least unofficial contact with the 5-10 posts where I'll be bidding to go next Summer when this assignment ends, and by mid-September, when the promotion list over Labor Day has been published, I'll be expected to have at least 5 bids in for posts 'at pay grade' (so I have to make my list of at least 10, 5 if I get promoted and 5 if I don't, though the 'at pay grade' thing can be fuzzy and there are exceptions so in theory, the list has overlaps and I have exceeded the minimum).

I'll post the list behind the usual 'members only' tag later on. A few are semi-high hardship, but none as bad as Dhaka was, and no danger like this next assignment.

I'm amazed that they were allowed to use the actual Embassy. I assume it would only be for establishing shots at the entrance, but still...

They did get SOME interior shots. But they were not critical locations, nor locations where actual work gets done at all, in fact.

Just to let the folks who care, know, it took 22 hours of flight time, 9 total hours of layovers and other airport related delays, and 11 time zones, but I am now at my new assignment, tucked into my new one year temporary digs. I am safe, I am sound, I am sweaty and exhausted and after a quick shower, will take advantage of the apartment building's built-in cafe -- bonus is that since this is halfway between a long-term hotel and a condo building, so since I live here, I can sign meals and groceries to my room and pay on a monthly invoice, so that'll be nice for lazy days.

I'mma shower, grab a bite, and then unpack everything that wasn't needed to shower. I may without commenting to avoid searches linking, post some pics this evening, since my acting boss tells me that one of my windows has a view at night of a major local piece of religious architecture lit up and looking faboo.

But for now, please know that I have arrived safely.
