She had other hits that didn't go far in the US, but were applauded elsewhere.

I often mixed her and Elis Regina up. Loved them both.

100% agree.

I have always liked Corcovado even more than Ipanema.

The Beatles are releasing their ‘final’ record. AI helped make it possible

https://apnews.com/article/beatles-arti ... 09cb7dc856
Artificial intelligence has been used to extract John Lennon’s voice from an old demo to create “the last Beatles record,” decades after the band broke up, Paul McCartney said Tuesday.

McCartney, 80, told the BBC that the technology was used to separate the Beatles’ voices from background sounds during the making of director Peter Jackson’s 2021 documentary series, “The Beatles: Get Back.” The “new” song is set to be released later this year, he said.

Jackson was “able to extricate John’s voice from a ropey little bit of cassette and a piano,” McCartney told BBC radio. “He could separate them with AI, he’d tell the machine ‘That’s a voice, this is a guitar, lose the guitar’.”

“So when we came to make what will be the last Beatles record, it was a demo that John had that we worked on,” he added. “We were able to take John’s voice and get it pure through this AI so then we could mix the record as you would do. It gives you some sort of leeway.”

McCartney didn’t identify the name of the demo, but the BBC and others said it was likely to be an unfinished 1978 love song by Lennon called “Now and Then.” The demo was included on a cassette labeled “For Paul” that McCartney had received from Lennon’s widow, Yoko Ono, the BBC reported.

I love finding new to me choral music while working my day job. Sadly, I cannot do this with my group right now. It as more parts than I have people.

Indodana, a Traditional isiXhosa song.

TRANSLATION

Ngob’umthatile umtwana wakho, uhlale nathi hololo helele
The Lord has taken his son who lived amongst us.
Indodana ka nkulunkulu bayi’bethelela hololo helele
The son of the Lord God was crucified.
Hololo Baba Jehova
Hololo Father Jehovah (Hololo represents crying and has no translation)
Zjem zja baba
Zjem zja father (Zjem zja is expressive with no meaning)

Oh, found another one from the same choir that I heard earlier, and must have like.

Dedicated to Foggy:

May he have good luck on his trip to Wilmington NC and hopefully we haven't mistaken his destination for Wilmington Delaware (in which case he'd better be VERY careful if he goes by way of Scranton PA.)

Avoid Scranton at all costs.

On the turning away
From the pale and downtrodden
And the words they say
Which we won't understand

Don't accept that what's happening
Is just a case of others' suffering
Or you'll find that you're joining in
The turning away

It's a sin that somehow
Light is changing to shadow
And casting its shroud
Over all we have known

Unaware how the ranks have grown
Driven on by a heart of stone
We could find that we're all alone
In the dream of the proud

On the wings of the night
As the daytime is stirring
Where the speechless unite in a silent accord
Using words, you will find, are strange
Mesmerised as they light the flame
Feel the new wind of change
On the wings of the night

No more turning away
From the weak and the weary
No more turning away
From the coldness inside

Just a world that we all must share
It's not enough just to stand and stare
Is it only a dream that there'll be
No more turning away?

That is one of my favorite songs from one of my favorite Pink Floyd albums. That's pretty much what I say about almost every Pink Floyd song and album though. My all time favorite. I saw them at the Superdome in New Orleans for their Division Bell tour. Awesome.
There's a lot of things that need to change. One specifically? Police brutality.

Pink Floyd (among a bunch of bands) always makes me feel whatever it is they're saying. This one, along with Wish You Were Here and Great Gig In The Sky, hammer hard.

I just watched Nicole Keller play the same Florence Price piece (and some Price songs, along with Bach, Hindemith, and Calvin Hampton) for tonight's evening concert at the American Guild of Organist's Regional Convention I am attending. She did a marvelous job.

I hate how much I adore this woman. There are so many reasons not to like her music, but damn.
Are you spruiking for her Aussie concerts now? Tickets went on sale yesterday and the network crashed immediatly.

Edit to Add:

The Guardian: Taylor Swift concerts declared "Major Event"
The Victorian government has taken steps to prevent scalpers from reselling sought-after Taylor Swift concert tickets at exorbitant prices.

The state minister for tourism, sport and major events, Steve Dimopoulos, announced on Tuesday afternoon that the pop star’s 2024 Eras tour, which includes two concert dates at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, would be now designated a “major event”, which activates a number of restrictions under Victoria’s anti-scalping laws.
...
One ticket for the Melbourne gigs was listed on Viagogo for $3,144 – 249% of the official maximum price for the most expensive ticket package through the official retailer, Ticketek.

Under anti-scalping laws in Victoria, tickets to a designated “major event” cannot be resold or listed for sale for more than 110% of their original value.

OK, I've been listening to quite a few 'reaction videos' lately.

There are quite a few 'young' kids that profess to don't know anything about the biggest acts in the known universe reacting to some of the greatest music in the world. Some are non-musicians, some are professionals, some are trite, some are very perceptive.

There's a pro flautist reacting to Ian Anderson's (Jethro Tull) flute on 'Bouree', there's a British pro-guitarist breaking down super solos as a teacher would. There's young whippersnappers totally freaked out over Moody Blues "Nights In White Satin" or Led Zeppelin "Whole Lotta Love" or "Stairway To Heaven" and on and on and on.

Here's a link to a classical harpist listening to "Bouree" which was based on a Bach piece. She goes into quite an interesting in depth analysis.
Here's a classical flautist reacting to Bouree" I'm Gobsmacked! Shocked! Amazing! Flute Gold! I gotta go practice!

Here's some guys that have never listened to Led Zeppelin (they're doing a series on LZ) and don't know what's going on with them. This episode is "When The Levee Breaks"
