Here he is talking about his omnibus lawsuit.
Texas Attorney General @TXAG wrote: WATCH: I announced an historic lawsuit this week. #Texas is suing the Biden Administration to end the implementation of the $1.7 trillion omnibus bill, which was passed by the U.S House without a quorum present.
It was never lawfully enacted and is unconstitutional.

re without a quorum present ...
The House approved the omnibus on a 225-201 vote, with one member, Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.), voting present. Only one Democrat, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (N.Y.), opposed it. The debate itself was sparsely attended, since hundreds of lawmakers from both parties filed to vote by proxy as a result of a major snowstorm

I'm led to believe that's his actual argument -- that a quorum as defined in either in black letter or the common law requires physical presence. But given that the very mention of Paxton's name raises my blood pressure every time, I have avoided the articles about this rather than have a minor health crisis.RTH10260 wrote: ↑Fri Feb 17, 2023 6:31 pm re without a quorum present ...

Sex trafficking plea deal unending 'nightmare' for Texas mom
JAKE BLEIBERG
Fri, March 24, 2023 at 6:27 AM GMT+1
SAN ANTONIO (AP) — Irma Reyes’ mind raced as her husband drove through the predawn darkness toward a courthouse hundreds of miles from home: Don’t they know my daughter matters?
Reyes had been barely able to eat since she heard that Texas prosecutors planned to let the two men charged with sex trafficking her daughter walk free. She was going to court to try to stop them.
Reyes’ daughter was 16 in 2017, when men she knew only as “Rocky” and “Blue” kept her and another girl at a San Antonio motel where men paid to have sex with them. Now, the cases against Rakim Sharkey and Elijah Teel — who police identified as the traffickers — have seen years of delay, a parade of prosecutors, an aborted trial and, ultimately, a stark retreat by the government.
They are among thousands of cases under a cloud of dysfunction at the office of Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, whose legal troubles include a federal criminal investigation. Trafficking cases in particular have come under scrutiny and cast doubt on how the agency, which fights court battles affecting people far beyond Texas, uses millions of state tax dollars on an issue that Republican leaders trumpet as a priority while attacking Democrats’ approach to border security.
A spokeswoman for the attorney general’s office, Kristen House, declined to answer questions for this story.
“It’s like a nightmare that I can’t wake up from,” Reyes said.
At the courthouse in January, Reyes’ stomach churned as she thought of the deal for the two men: five years of probation. The original charges carried potential sentences of decades in prison.

https://www.texasattorneygeneral.gov/ne ... 19-vaccinePaxton Launches Investigation into Gain-of-Function Research and Misrepresentations by Covid-19 Vaccine Manufacturers
Attorney General Paxton launched an investigation into the pharmaceutical companies Pfizer, Moderna, and Johnson & Johnson concerning whether they engaged in gain-of-function research and misled the public about doing so.
Paxton is also investigating whether the companies misrepresented the efficacy of their Covid-19 vaccines and the likelihood of transmitting Covid-19 after taking the vaccines in violation of the Texas Deceptive Trade Practices Act. The investigation will also look into the potential manipulation of vaccine trial data. This investigation concerns potentially fraudulent activity that falls outside the scope of legal immunity granted to manufacturers of the Covid-19 vaccine. It will also review the companies’ controversial practice of reporting the metric of “relative risk reduction” instead of “absolute risk reduction” when publicly discussing the efficacy of their vaccines.
In recent years, certain pharmaceutical companies have had record-breaking financial success, driven in part by sales made from products related to the Covid-19 pandemic. This vested interest in the success of these Covid-19 products, combined with reports about the alarming side effects of vaccines, demands aggressive investigation.
Texas’s investigation will force these companies to turn over documents the public otherwise could not access. Attorney General Paxton is committed to discovering the full scope of decision-making behind pandemic interventions forced on the public, especially when a profit motive or political pressure may have compromised Americans’ health and safety. Efforts by the federal government to coerce compliance with unjust and illegal pandemic interventions, even at the cost of citizens’ employment, means this investigation into the scientific and ethical basis on which public health decisions were made is of major significance.
Given the unprecedented political power and influence over public health policies that pharmaceutical companies now wield, it is more important than ever that they are held accountable if they take dangerous, illegal actions to boost their revenues.

This investigation aims to discover the truth,” said Attorney General Paxton. “This pandemic was a deeply challenging time for Americans. If any company illegally took advantage of consumers during this period or compromised people’s safety to increase their profits, they will be held responsible. If public health policy was developed on the basis of flawed or misleading research, the public must know. The catastrophic effects of the pandemic and subsequent interventions forced on our country and citizens deserve intense scrutiny, and we are pursuing any hint of wrongdoing to the fullest.”

https://www.texasattorneygeneral.gov/ne ... lic-safetyPaxton Challenges the Biden Administration’s New Unlawful Border Policy to Protect Public Safety
Attorney General Paxton has filed a motion for a temporary restraining order to request that the courts stop Joe Biden from enacting an unlawful policy that releases illegal immigrants into communities across America as record numbers of aliens surge to the United States-Mexico border.
The program, promulgated by the Department of Homeland Security on May 10, allows the Administration to “parole” illegal aliens into the United States without even issuing a notice that they're required to appear before an immigration judge.
The new policy is scheduled to go into effect on May 12. Rather than giving illegal aliens a court date to appear before they are released on the streets, the new policy simply requests that illegal immigrants give a mailing address and promise to appear at an ICE facility within 60 days to ask for an immigration-court date. The 60-day deadline is not firm. The Biden Administration could arbitrarily allow the illegal alien longer than that, and the aliens are not required to appear in person—they can ask for their court date by mail.“There are no words that can fully describe the unmitigated catastrophe that Joe Biden has created on our southern border,” said Attorney General Paxton. “What we are watching in real time is the systematic, deliberate, and intentional destruction of American border security. There’s simply no other explanation for what Biden is doing. As the number of daily border crossings hits record highs and Title 42 expires, the Biden Administration has announced they will release thousands of illegal immigrants every day—without even requiring a court date. To any reasonable American, this is insanity. Biden’s effort to subject Texas communities to the costs and chaos of unending, out-of-control illegal immigration will not go unchallenged, and we’re taking him to court to stop this unlawful policy.”
The emergency order Paxton is requesting will stop the Biden Administration from enforcing this new policy that will further undermine American border security if allowed to continue.

TX House Committee is recommending impeachment for Paxton.
https://www.nytimes.com/2023/05/25/us/t ... hment.htmlTexas Panel Recommends Impeachment of Attorney General Ken Paxton
The Republican-led House committee said Mr. Paxton’s abuses of office rose to the level of possible crimes that warranted an impeachment vote.
A Republican-led committee of the Texas House of Representatives recommended on Thursday that the state’s attorney general, Ken Paxton, be impeached for a range of abuses of his office that the committee said may have been crimes.
The recommendation thrust the State Capitol and its Republican leadership into uncharted political territory in the waning days of the legislative session, setting the stage for the House to hold a vote on impeachment, its first in decades and one of the few ever conducted in the state’s history.
If he is impeached, Mr. Paxton, who has been under a separate criminal indictment since 2015, would be required to step down from his post temporarily while facing trial in the State Senate.
“There’s really no precedent — we’ve really only had two impeachments under the constitution of 1876,” said Mark P. Jones, a professor of political science at Rice University. They include the governor in 1917, who resigned the day before the Senate convicted him, and a district judge who was convicted and removed in the 1970s.

My understanding is that Paxton is in a fight with the legislature right now over a $3M+ award from some case that needs to be paid. Paxton wants the taxpayers to foot the bill, the legislature thinks differently.

I came in midway through on the CNN reporting, and I was punchy from being up too early, but supposedly there was some kind of preserve records order and then this happened. Coincidence?AUSTIN — A dumpster fire broke out at the attorney general’s office, hours after investigators accused Texas AG Ken Paxton of several serious crimes and said they’d ordered his agency to preserve related documents and evidence.
On Thursday, Paxton said a 42-year-old woman was arrested for criminal mischief, and despite the agency earlier alleging the incident was an arson, said initial investigations appeared to show the fire set by mistake.
The woman “was seen discarding what appears to be a lit cigarette into a waste receptacle behind the building,” Paxton said in a statement posted to the agency’s Twitter account. “[The Department of Public Safety] questioned the suspect over political motivations for this crime and have preliminarily determined the fire was unintentional.”
The agency’s Twitter account noted she was charged with criminal mischief equal to or greater than $25,000 but less than $30,000, which appears to be a state jail felony. But the woman’s booking information notes she was charged a class A misdemeanor for criminal mischief equal between $750 and $2,500. Class A misdemeanors are punishable by up to one year in jail, a fine of up to $4,000, or both.
