Colorado Springs Mayoral Election - "liberal" Yemi Mobolade wins runoff

I woke up this morning to find a friend had sent me an email that hell has frozen over: Colorado Springs has elected a liberal*, black immigrant as mayor in a run-off election. There were a lot of candidates in the original election, including some who could give Lauren Boehbert a run for her money for far-right lunacy. I was pleasantly surprised when Yemi Mobolade, who is politically unaffiliated, made it to the run-off, but attributed it to the nut job Republicans beating on one another in the original race. Wayne Williams, the runner-up is a "traditional" Colorado Springs Republican, but is widely viewed as in the pocket of real-estate developers, which is not a good place to be right now.
Yemi Mobolade, a Nigerian immigrant and businessman with no political experience, will be the first elected Black mayor of Colorado Springs after he defeated Wayne Williams on Tuesday night in the city’s runoff contest.

Mobolade had received 57% of the vote to Williams’ 43% as of 7:15 p.m. Tuesday. Williams conceded at about 7:30 p.m. When the second batch of results was released shortly before 9 p.m., the percentages hadn’t shifted.

Mobolade will succeed Mayor John Suthers, a former federal prosecutor and Colorado attorney general who was term-limited, to become the city’s 42nd mayor.

*Williams labeled Mobolade as a liberal in the commercials that were running on local TV.

Hay nao, that's great news, FiveAcres!

In fact, as far as I can tell, you know who didn't win in any of the different elections all across this great land of ours yesterday?

Trump-supporting MAGAt election deniers, that's who. They ALL lost.

Unless primaries count? Didn't the AG dude in Kentucky win his primary?

And justice shall be done.

Was he an election denier? I may be confuzzled here. :confuzzled:

Wait, Ballotpedía says the primary was canceled, but he advanced. No opponent?

I saw this, so I assume so:

At the very least, he won't call it an insurrection and compares it to the BLM protests, as so many do. So he's soft denier, I guess.

Daniel Cameron is the current KY AG. He’s running for governor this election. He was endorsed in the Republican primary by Trump and beat the DeSantos-backed Kelly Craft.

The primary for AG apparently only had one candidate each Dem and Repub, so they both moved forward.

Ah, so Shizzle meant the primary for governor, not attorney general. But the current AG won the primary, and I suspect he's not a hard and fast election denier. He seems more like the type to test the political polling before he commits to any position at all.

I'm starting to think that politics is the sleaziest profession, and that politicians like him are the least of us, in terms of contributions to make this a better world.
