Perhaps Дональд Трамп could be persuaded that Mother Russia deserves some payback for the investment it made in his campaign and he could resettle there to MRGA?

His fan, Elmo Musk could assist the effort, what a team that would be! In 50 years schoolkids would be asking "yes, but what was Rush-er? Was it mythical, like Atlantis? It really existed?!?No!!"

Opinion: Putin shuts off the gas? Europe is not only surviving the energy war against Russia — it’s winning.

https://www.marketwatch.com/story/putin ... a-1bc01893
Russian President Vladimir Putin’s brutal war on Ukraine has resulted in Western Europe shaking off its dangerous dependence on Russian oil and gas. It isn’t hyperbole to say that this is a big deal.

Before the war began in February 2022, Russia supplied about one-third of Europe’s natural gas. Europe was also the destination for almost half of Russia’s crude and petroleum product exports, according to the International Energy Agency (IEA).

Putin saw this as leverage. Yes, the West might squawk about his invasion, he reasoned, but its thirst for energy would supersede any efforts to assist Ukraine in meaningful ways. After all, such efforts could result in his turning off the taps, a move that Putin thought would plunge Europe into a cold, dark winter and deep recession.

He was wrong. Military aid flowed into Ukraine, and Putin cut off the gas. But what of it? Europe has emerged from a challenging winter, and guess what? No recession. The Euro Area economy expanded 1.8% year-on-year in the last quarter of 2022, says Trading Economics, citing Eurostat data. It adds that for 2022 as a whole, Eurozone GDP expanded 3.5%.

Lower energy prices have supported Europe’s GDP — something that Putin didn’t anticipate. Capital Economics, a London-based consulting firm, says the net cost of natural gas, relative to GDP, will fall by more than half in Germany, France, Italy and other major European countries. In the U.S., the St. Louis Federal Reserve notes that spending by U.S. households on energy goods and services—while still elevated—has fallen sharply since June 2022.

Infographic - Liquefied natural gas infrastructure in the EU

Importing liquefied natural gas (LNG) is a way to diversify the suppliers and routes the EU is using to obtain natural gas. It has become especially important in the context of the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the EU’s plan to reduce dependence on Russian gas imports.

The EU is the largest LNG importer in the world. In the first half of 2022, the EU imported over 65 billion cubic meters (bcm) of LNG, worth over €60 billion. France was the largest LNG importer in the EU, ahead of Spain and Belgium.

In the first half of 2022, the United States was the largest LNG supplier to the EU, representing almost 50% of total imports. Year on year, LNG imports from the US more than doubled.

The EU's overall LNG import capacity is significant (around 157 bcm in regasified form per year) – enough to meet around 40% of total gas demand. However, access to LNG infrastructure is uneven across the EU.

Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and weaponisation of gas supplies pushed the EU member states to further develop their LNG infrastructure. A number of planned investments are to be treated as EU projects of common interest, which benefit from streamlined procedures and, in some cases, co-financing through the Connecting Europe Facility.

in https://www.consilium.europa.eu/en/info ... in-the-eu/
Europe Will Add 50 Bcm of LNG Import Capacity by End-2023
:snippity:
Europe’s plans to replace its imports of Russian piped natural gas following the country’s invasion of Ukraine has prompted the region to expand its LNG import capacity to tap into global, flexible supplies. To speed up the process, Europe has opted to seek out floating storage and regasification units (FSRUs) to rapidly build out its LNG import capacity.

Energy Intelligence calculates that from September 2022 to October 2023, FSRUs will provide Europe with an extra 36.44 million tons per year, or the equivalent of 49.55 billion cubic meters per year, of new LNG import capacity. Comparatively, it is still dwarfed by the EU’s total 155 Bcm of Russian piped gas imported in 2021 but will be compensated by an increase in other imported piped supplies, an increase in renewable capacity and a slash in gas demand.

in https://www.energyintel.com/00000184-2f ... 2d9dfd0000
Europe’s LNG import capacity set to expand by one-third by end of 2024

Liquefied natural gas (LNG) import capacity in the European Union (EU) and the United Kingdom (UK) will expand by 34%, or 6.8 billion cubic feet per day (Bcf/d), by 2024 compared with 2021, according to the International Group of Liquefied Natural Gas Importers (GIIGNL) and trade press data. Expansions of import, or regasification, capacity will total 5.3 Bcf/d by the end of next year and grow further by an additional 1.5 Bcf/d by the end of 2024.

LNG regasification capacity in the EU-27 and the UK remained relatively stable and expanded modestly in the last 10 years, by 2.8 Bcf/d (16%), from 17.5 Bcf/d in 2012 to 20.2 Bcf/d at the end of 2021, according to data from GIIGNL. Since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022 and the reduction in natural gas pipeline imports from Russia that followed, European countries have reactivated development of previously dormant regasification projects and have started development of new projects.

Pentagon leak traced to video game chat group users arguing over war in Ukraine
Analysis suggests top-secret documents were first shared on closed gamer chatrooms hosted by Discord

Alex Hern UK technology editor
Tue 11 Apr 2023 14.46 BST

A damaging batch of documents leaked from the Pentagon appears to have been initially shared on the video game chat platform Discord in an effort to win an argument about the war in Ukraine, according to open-source intelligence analysts.

The bizarre provenance of the leak may seem unusual but it is far from the first time that a dispute between gamers has sparked an intelligence breach, with the overlapping communities causing problems for military and gaming platforms alike.

The existence of the leaked cache was exposed as documents showing estimated casualties in the Bakhmut theatre of battle began circulating on public social networks last week.

Two versions of those documents, one of which had been crudely digitally altered to understate Russian casualties and overstate Ukrainian ones, were passed around among observers of the war. One, with the correct figures, stemmed from a leak to 4chan, the chaotic image board best known for birthing the “alt right” movement.

At the same time, a second set of documents, including the edited image, were being passed around pro-Russian Telegram channels.

Neither was the original source, however. Before they emerged on to the public internet, the documents had been shared on closed chatrooms hosted by Discord, a gamer-focused chat app. In one server, called “Minecraft Earth Map”, 10 of the documents were posted as early as 4 March, a month before they appeared on 4chan.

“After a brief spat with another person on the server about Minecraft Maps and the war in Ukraine, one of the Discord users replied: ‘Here, have some leaked documents’ – attaching 10 documents about Ukraine, some of which bore the ‘top secret’ markings,” said Aric Toler, an analyst at the investigative research group§ Bellingcat.

Pentagon leaks linked to young gun enthusiast who worked at military base – report
Man known online as ‘OG’ is said to have access to large amounts of classified material and to regard intelligence services as repressive

Julian Borger in Washington
Thu 13 Apr 2023 06.10 BST

The man responsible for the leak of hundreds of classified Pentagon documents is reported to be a young, racist gun enthusiast who worked on a military base, and who was seeking to impress two dozen fellow members of an internet chat group.

The Washington Post interviewed a teenage member of the group, who described the man, referred to by the initials “OG”, from their online correspondence, and shared photographs and videos. The Post also viewed a video of a man identified as OG at a shooting range with a large rifle.

“He yells a series of racial and antisemitic slurs into the camera, then fires several rounds at a target,” the report said. OG told fellow members of the same internet group that he worked on a military base, which was not named in the report, where his job involved viewing large amounts of classified information.

The leaked documents have laid bare secrets about Ukraine’s preparations for a spring counter-offensive, US spying on allies such as Ukraine, South Korea and Israel, and the tensions between Washington and allied capitals over arming Kyiv.

There is increasing evidence that the leak was not an intelligence operation by a state actor aiming to discredit the US, but more likely the consequence of a Pentagon policy of granting top secret security clearances to huge numbers of service members, civilians and contractors. The number of employees and contractors in the entire US government with top secret clearance is about 1.25 million.

OG appears to have acted as a leader on a server originally set up in 2020 on the Discord messaging platform by a small group of gun enthusiasts and gamers. The group went by several names, but most often it was known as Thug Shaker Central. Starting last year, OG is reported to have posted the documents on a channel on the server he named “Bear vs Pig”, a reference to the Ukraine war but also a viral video showing pigs fighting off a black bear.

According to the teenage member of the group interviewed by the Post, OG “had a dark view of the government”, portraying the government, and particularly law enforcement and the intelligence agencies, as a repressive force. He ranted about “government overreach”.

The Post said details were confirmed anonymously by other members of the group, and that it had viewed a total 300 photographs of classified documents, three times the number previously thought to be circulating.

The origins of the leaks on Thug Shaker Central was first reported on Sunday by the Bellingcat investigative journalism group, which also interviewed the same member, who is under 18.

New Leaked Documents Show Broad Infighting Among Russian Officials
The additional documents also suggest the breach of American intelligence agencies could contain far more material than previously believed.

By Anton Troianovski, Aric Toler, Julian E. Barnes, Christiaan Triebert and Malachy Browne

The depth of the infighting inside the Russian government appears broader and deeper than previously understood, judging from a newly discovered cache of classified intelligence documents that has been leaked online.

The additional documents, which did not surface in a 53-page set that came to wide public attention online last week, paint a picture of the Russian government feuding over the count of the dead and wounded in the Ukraine war, with the domestic intelligence agency accusing the military of obscuring the scale of casualties that Russia has suffered.

The new batch, which contains 27 pages, reinforces how deeply American spy agencies have penetrated nearly every aspect of the Russian intelligence apparatus and military command structure. It also shows that the breach of American intelligence agencies could contain far more material than previously understood.

In one document, American intelligence officials say that Russia’s main domestic intelligence agency, the Federal Security Service, or F.S.B., has “accused” the country’s Defense Ministry “of obfuscating Russian casualties in Ukraine.” The finding highlights “the continuing reluctance of military officials to convey bad news up the chain of command,” they say.

The entry, dated Feb. 28 in a document with a series of updates about the war in Ukraine and other global hot spots, appears to be based on electronic intercepts collected by American intelligence agencies.

Each disclosure of classified documents has the potential to reveal additional methods and means of intelligence gathering. The documents do not appear to contain much, if any, information from human sources, suggesting the original leaker may not have had access to that more highly classified material. Instead, much of the material is labeled as coming from communications intercepts.

Taken together, the documents underscore several of the overarching reasons why, many analysts believe, President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia has failed to secure a military victory in Ukraine after more than 13 months of war.

Among them: infighting and finger-pointing among Russian agencies responsible for different aspects of the war, including the F.S.B. and the Defense Ministry. The leaked entry about the casualty numbers provides little context for the intelligence officials’ finding, but it reports that the F.S.B. is questioning the Defense Ministry’s own casualty count in discussions within the Russian government.

AG: Guardsman to be charged with removing classified info

https://apnews.com/article/leaked-docum ... osition_01
WASHINGTON (AP) — A Massachusetts Air National Guard member who has emerged as a main person of interest in the disclosure of highly classified military documents was taken into custody Thursday by federal agents, Attorney General Merrick Garland announced.

Investigators believe that the guardsman, who specializes in intelligence, led the online chat group where the documents were posted. Garland identified the guardsman as 21-year-old Jack Teixeira, and said he would be charged with the unauthorized removal of classified national defense information.

FBI agents converged Thursday at Teixeira’s Massachusetts home and heavily armed tactical agents took Teixeira, who was wearing a T-shirt and shorts, into custody outside the property, “without incident,” Garland said.

He will be charged with unauthorized removal of classified national defense information, Garland said, and will have an initial court appearance in federal court in Massachusetts.

It was not immediately clear if Teixeira had a lawyer who could speak on his behalf, and a phone message left at a number believed to belong to his mother was not immediately returned.

Law enforcement officials roped off the street near the home. The New York Times, which first identified Teixeira on Thursday, said that a man who had been standing outside the Teixeira home earlier said that “he needs to get an attorney if things are flowing the way they are going right now. The Feds will be around soon, I’m sure.”

Excellent timing that a 21 year-old cis, straight white guy Air National Guardsman who makes videos of himself shooting guns while shouting racist and antisemitic epithets is behind the massive intel documents leak on Discord while Republicans claim, without evidence, that trans folks are bad for military readiness.

Real consequences for a stupid kid: Accused Pentagon secrets leaker Jack Teixeira deserves harsh punishment for endangering national security

https://www.nydailynews.com/opinion/ny- ... story.html
So maybe Jack Teixeira, a lowly 21-year-old enlisted man in the Massachusetts Air National Guard still living at his mom’s house, thought it was wicked cool to share some info he had seen at work at a Cape Cod Air Force base with his online pals, most of whom are kids living in their own moms’ houses.

That’s fine for this pathetic character to build himself up to impress some teen losers in their “Thug Shaker Central” chat group on Discord, but that he used stolen highly classified national defense documents ain’t cool and we trust that young Airman Teixeira will soon enough be serving in a different uniform at a different kind of federal facility.

The guys bonded online over their shared love of guns and stuff like that and Teixeira allegedly committed serious federal felonies, not for money like a traitor selling out his country or because his politics were opposed to Washington’s actions or even to be a whistleblower exposing what he thought was wrong, but to show off to his internet pals.

And for that, the national security of the United States and our allies, like the brave Ukrainians trying to hold off the invading Russians, have been put at risk. How stupid is this?

Teixeira and his lawyers will become very familiar with 18 U.S.C. 793, also known as the Espionage Act. The unauthorized removal, retention, and transmission of classified national defense information is a serious offense that can bring 10 years in prison for each document leaked, no matter the motivation, be it money from the Kremlin or an online bragging session.

U.S. military intelligence leak suspect charged, remains in custody

https://www.cbc.ca/news/world/us-suspec ... -1.6810371
A 21-year-old member of the U.S. Air Force National Guard accused of leaking highly classified military intelligence records online made his initial appearance before a federal judge in Boston on Friday to face charges he unlawfully removed and retained classified materials.

Jack Douglas Teixeira, of North Dighton, Mass., who was arrested by the FBI at his home on Thursday without incident, appeared in federal court wearing a brown khaki jumpsuit.

At the hearing, Boston's top federal national security prosecutor, Nadine Pellegrini, requested that Teixeira be detained pending trial, and a detention hearing was set for Wednesday.

In a criminal complaint made public on Friday, Teixeira was charged with unlawfully copying and possessing classified defence records. Each offence can carry up to 10 years in prison.

Right? So far it's been "Teixeira is a whistleblower and the one telling the TRUFF!!!" Leaving the "Biden is so senile he's open letting all the miscreants steal our docs!"

I think the choice might have something to do with wanting to stay away from the issue of...stolen docs.
