Biden is visiting Canada now. He met with the Governor General and the Prime Minister, but I don’t see anything about a meeting with Queen Romana.

Apologies; it did get a majority (219-200).

Joe Biden lands in Belfast ahead of four-day visit to island of Ireland
US president arrives in Northern Ireland on Tuesday before flying to Dublin in visit to help ‘keep the peace’

Joe Biden has landed in Northern Ireland ahead of a four-day visit to the island of Ireland to underpin his support for peace in the country and to celebrate his Irish roots.

The US president was met at Belfast international airport by Rishi Sunak on Tuesday night for the start of a visit expected to mix delicate political choreography with economic announcements and events linked to Biden’s Irish and Catholic heritage.

Speaking to reporters before taking off in Air Force One, Biden said he wanted to safeguard the Good Friday agreement, which was signed 25 years ago this week, and support Sunak’s post-Brexit deal for the region. Asked what his priorities for the trip were, he said: “Make sure the Irish accords and Windsor agreements stay in place. Keep the peace and that’s the main thing. It looks like we’re going to keep our fingers crossed.”

The Northern Ireland secretary, Chris Heaton-Harris, and the King’s personal representative for County Antrim, Lord-Lieutenant David McCorkell, were also among the welcoming party.

The two leaders met briefly before the president drove away in an armoured car amid a light scattering of snow.

Heavy security on both sides of the border preceded the US entourage, which will include the US secretary of state, Antony Blinken, and a recently appointed economic envoy to Northern Ireland, Joseph Kennedy III.

U.S. judge blocks Biden clean water rule in 24 states

Wed, April 12, 2023 at 7:20 PM GMT+2

(Reuters) -A federal judge in North Dakota on Wednesday temporarily blocked implementation of a Biden administration rule establishing protections for seasonal streams and wetlands in 24 states, according to court documents.

U.S. District Court Judge Daniel Hovland granted the states' request for a preliminary injunction prohibiting enforcement of the Environmental Protection Agency's Waters of the United States rule, which was finalized in December.

In the order, Hovland said the states would "expend unrecoverable resources complying with a rule unlikely to withstand judicial scrutiny."

The rule protects waterways that have a "significant nexus" to navigable U.S. waters - a standard that ranchers, developers and other industry groups have said is overly broad and creates burdensome permitting and regulatory hurdles.

West Virginia and 23 other Republican-led states sued the EPA and other federal agencies in February, alleging the rule violates the U.S. Constitution and sows confusion for landowners.

An EPA spokesperson said the agency is reviewing Wednesday’s ruling and called the Biden administration rule “the best interpretation” of the Clean Water Act.

Representatives for West Virginia and North Dakota issued statements praising the injunction, saying the rule would hurt industry and jobs without achieving environmental protection goals.

The case is part of a protracted battle over the scope of the Clean Water Act and what waterways the federal government has the authority to regulate.

Texas and industry groups led by the American Farm Bureau Federation separately won a limited injunction last month halting implementation of the rule in Texas and Idaho. Previous efforts by the Obama and Trump administrations to define the law's scope also faced numerous legal challenges.

In Congress, Republicans led an effort to repeal the water rule last month, with limited support from across the aisle including four Senate Democrats and independent Senator Kyrsten Sinema of Arizona. President Joe Biden, a Democrat, vetoed that measure earlier this month.

The U.S. Supreme Court is also considering the scope of the law, and heard oral arguments in a case challenging an earlier interpretation of its reach in October.

IIRC there is a stable of Beasts, and one will be forwarded on a separate military cargo plane with the advance team to the destination (including the row of Secret Service vehicles that go along with it, including an ambulance at times).

ETA I understand that at times there will be a second Beast in the lineup so that a potential attacker will not know which carries the POTUS.

Thank you. I wondered often times but always forgot to ask.

OH and I read somewhere that the reason the congressional pins are different colors is because a new design and pin color is created every year. Spouses get a different one and doesn't hold the same sway that the congressperson's pin does.

There are three of them

And if you search youtube there are a lot of videos of the C5 arriving ahead of the President and them unloading all the stuff that is needed for a foreign visit.

Pretty neat, actually.

ETA: There are actually six, as the 3 copies of the previous 2009-2018 versions are also still available to use.

They used to be much more casual about it. Ford made a special Lincoln for Jackie Kennedy which recently came up for auction and in at least one occasion I know of, JFK rode in a convertible loaned for the day by a local car dealer.

When Ford provided them, they leased them to the Secret Service, and at the end of the lease they were returned to the company and donated to The Henry Ford Museum.

You are correct and it is pretty neat. It's not just Air Force One flying in. And you are correct, there are three beast limos two being decoys.

If you'd seen how the PSNI cleared the roads here in Belfast to make way for the motorcade, the question of whether the USSS drives on the locally proper side would be moot. From kerb to kerb, it was a ghost town. Though the sidewalks were full and teeming.

(I may have been in Belfast for two weeks doing technical stuff for some kind of diplomatic team supporting some kind of big event that maybe involved a VIP visit, just sayin')

As round and round we run;
And the truth shall ever come uppermost,
And justice shall be done.

I'm not sure what Biden is going to do, but I would expect Congress to get off their duffs and do something and not lay it all at the feet of Biden. FWIW.

Unrelated- how old is Grassley now? 156? We should remember him when the inevitable attacks regarding Biden's age commence.
