I started flying regularly in the early 1970s at my employer's expense.
Deregulation hadn't happened yet. Seats were wide. Planes were rarely full. There were meals on most flights. Flight attendants were young women who looked like they had stepped out of a fashion magazine. Security was minimal.
Fares were very expensive. Most passengers were white males wearing suits. Including me.
How things have changed.

So, you remember when seat backs could recline more than 1 inch? And ashtrays in the arm rests? And mid flight snacks were more than a pack of 5 mini pretzels? The good old days.Volkonski wrote: ↑Sun Feb 12, 2023 12:20 am

Though I must say that I do not miss the smokers any longer on airplanes. I still have bad memories of a longer flight, booked as non-smoking in business class (European style). No separation, the non-smokers were just the rows past the smokers, and I happened to be in the first row behind them. To my bad luck the ventilation on this plane pulled used air from the smoker over the non-smoker section
PS. on the same flight, as usually I was restless and could not sleep well (nightflight), the steward asked me if I would like to sit in the cockpit! Of course I enjoyed a time in the blacked out cockpit on the jumpseat. I remember the very strange feeling of flying over war torn Sudan and Aethiopia in those days. Didn't matter to the airlines, partner states regulated the air traffic and someone in those countries picked up the fees.

Yeah, it's not a joke but it made me laugh... and an informative read about swearing origins and some benefits of using them... by golly.

.If it were the 14th century, your name was Robert Clevecunt and you lived on Pissing Alley, you wouldn’t have hesitated to tell anyone your name or address. Such words were common enough to be unremarkable. It is easily offended 21st-century humans who would change our name by deed poll and lobby the council to change its road signs.

Jokes
Old joke, probly inappropriately rememberated:
A blonde enters her doctor's office:
"Hello, how can I help?"
"Doctor, I have pains everywhere on my body."
"Can you show me where please?"
She touches her cheek "ow! here!", touches her nose "oof! here!", touches her left leg and yelps "here too!" and also her right leg "agh! and this one is as bad."
The doctor thinks for a moment then says "right, I need to treat you for a sore finger."
