Another glimpse of snow

It gets worse. On Thursday night, after about 2-3 inches of wet snow, I decided to clear snow to make it easier the next day. Some folks were probably wondering why I was also shoveling snow in the road in front of my place (about 4 feet from the curb). It is one of my oddities that, it would be easier to clear a few inches from the road, then from the end of my driveway after the plows came by (and the sidewalk since it is only about 2 feet from the road).

The next day, people have a bunch of snow in their driveway from the snow and the plow, I have about 2 inches.

This is what I used to do back in the Commiewealth of Massachusetts. Also a few feet of the street upstream to try to get the plow cleared a bit before it got to my driveway.

Must be something about driving a Grand Cherokee that makes us do it

Then again, I would also go clear out the nearest storm drains both up and down the street... because my neighbors somehow couldn't be bothered.

Here is the March 15 chart of the Sierra snow pack from the California Department of Water Resources referred to in the above video. It is one day later, so the numbers are slightly higher. Note that the upper limit of the graphs has been raised from 250% to 300% because the Southern Sierra snow pack is now at 260% of the April 1 average, which is the deepest in recorded history, as the video states. The previous largest snow pack was the water year 1982-83, which is the highest reddish line in the charts. The other three deepest snow pack years are also charted.

It is very likely that the snow pack for the state as a whole, the bottom chart, will also eventually top the 1982-83 depth. More rain is in the forecast.

Wild day!
First a drenching rain so hard it floated my neighbors trash cans half way down the block.

Then the sun came out.

Then we had a torrential hail storm.

Now the sun again.

All in the space of 30 mins. It’s like living in DC again!

Gunlock Reservoir State Park is located near St. George Utah.

These amazing waterfalls only happen when there is a lot of spring runoff and this runoff has been very high this year! I visited this place back in April 2020 and have some comparisons at the end of the video, so make sure to watch until the end!

We stayed for a few hours getting pictures and videos and on the way home we found that the road was blocked due to flooding.

If you do plan to visit Gunlock, make sure to check current road/lake conditions. Roads may be closed!! They were closed the night we visited! or even the park itself might be closed!

Please be careful around the falls! Every year there are waterfalls, people are injured! Don’t get too close to the waterfalls especially when they are this strong! Do not leave your trash (pick up some while you're there if you can too). A small community lives at Gunlock so please be respectful of them.

This is a fee area so make sure you bring cash or you can pay online before you go.
