"Going Places" could not possibly have hit number 1 in March 1965 - it was not released until 17 SEPTEMBER 1965.

Furthermore, "Whipped Cream and Other Delights" was released in APRIL 1965 - so it was also unknown in March, but it did hit number 1.

The previous album, "On The Border" was Albert's first top ten hit (according to Wikipedia) but I don't think it hit number one.

Whipped Cream is kind of a cult collectors album amongst record collectors. There are bazillions 'out there' somewhere, but I haven't seen one in the wild for years. Some folks I have heard talk have upwards of 30 copies - I reckon "they" are trying to corner the market. A reissue was made a few years ago and the original cover was recreated with a different model. I'm not sure I could tell the difference unless I saw them side by side.

One of my favorite pieces, one I have not bothered to figure out if I could work it up, is Dupre's Prelude and Fugue in B Major (the amount of sharps would frighten me). It is great piece with lots of work for the hands and feet, not only on the manuals (keyboards) and pedals, but also on the various stop changes (where he is pushing buttons or the toe studs) and the expression pedals (the ones ones in the feet that rock back and forth).

Not all organs are that back, but even the smallest usually have 2 keyboards and pedals. It takes practice.

I did this once with my church choir when it fit the readings for the day. It is a lovely piece.

Besides organ playing, my undergrad is in choral music.

I can deal with most all music. (death metal screaming is a no go). So even church cathedral music is good at the right time and measure.

Did any of you kids get to see Nine Inch Nails live? Pretty good stuff passing a joint down the aisle. (I think we are passed the statute of limitations on self-incrimination).

And these guys, too. This is mosh pit stuff (I can't mosh today -- body would not survive it). And to those who might say, "hey, that's death metal" -- there are loud parts but there are soft parts of storytelling.

I never have pulled a really loud trumpet rank (trompette en chamade, tuba magna, state trumpet, etc) by mistake at a really inopportune moment. No, never. Not me.

I have not had the opportunity to play with the Party Horn (aka State Trumpet) at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in New York. The opening he uses the trumpet.

And another non-Easter one for those observing lent (though not very lenten). They have liturgical dancers. In this one, you can really tell the challenges of such a huge place (sound delay issues) and an amazingly long procession with a rather short hymn (but lots of fun to sing and play).

I'm not a particular fan of liturgical dancers, although I can't, if I search my heart, think of a principled objection to using them (in moderation). King David and all that.

Yes, a constant challenge. I remember Dr. Wyton mentioning that he had experimented with using the State Trumpet to accompany the choir, but it just wasn't possible to compensate for the time lag.

It was hubris of JP Morgan and the other backers to insist on such a monster, and maintaining the structure (let alone finishing the design) is a perpetual and crippling burden for a small denomination.
