Is that the movie with the former child star who "sees dead people" movie but grown up and gets a job teaching Sex Ed to middle schoolers? Hiliarious! And gosh he got chubby.
That's Sex Ed.
Sex Education is a British show on Netflix. Gillian Anderson plays a sex-therapist single mom. Her son, through osmosis or prodigy, dispenses sex advice to his high-school classmates.
Watched a few seasons, but haven't returned to it; don't know if I will.
OK Neon, now I think I got it, you're talking about Season 4 of 1000-Lb Sisters. They're up to Episode 3 now. Do you like it more than Season 3? Tammy's weight loss has been incredible. Of course, you and everybody at Fogbow remembers she was hospitalized last year after COVID and other ailments. She's been in the rehab hospital for a year now and she's a completely different person, it's amazing. There's even talk in the clip with some photos she got married to another patient. Really happy for her. Did you want to share the happy story but didn't find the link? It's here:
Keith, I use Brave as a backup browser, haven't used the VPN since Nord is doing that job but that's good to know. It opens a huge world of entertainment using the VPN, our messages upthread discuss how to do it if anybody wants to try it out.
Suzie, thanks for the reminder about Bake Off: The Professionals, it's a great show. I know NOTHING about cooking or baking, but enjoy seeing how they put everything together (and the cute accents like in Four In A Bed). I'm a huge fan of Cherish Finden, spent time looking her up after the last season of the show. Her Insta is https://www.instagram.com/cherish_finden/?hl=en.
She started her first job aged 14 and soon asked if she could work in the kitchen, before she began attending cookery school at the age of 16. Cherish soon honed her skills in the best hotels in Singapore, including the famous six star Raffles Hotel and The Sheraton. She NOW works at The Langham, London as their Executive Pastry Chef.

We're loving the new season of #GBBO Great British Bake Off: The Professionals on Netflix. You're the greatest, Cherish! And the new Shioki London Patisserie is gorgeous. How do we get the Apple Tin Cake in South Florida?

Love Cherish also! That little chocolate teapot was too cute for words. Right now I am watching chocolate episode in Heat 2. They must use black sesame with their chocolate. Chef Benoit is an ultra sexy Frenchman. Chef Cherish is so chic and well dressed. How does she stay so slim as a pastry chef?
I was cleaning out my closet today, so I picked something from Netflix to entertain me while I worked. I went with "Harry & Meghan" b/c I figured it wouldn't interest me while I was working. It was surprisingly good. The first episode was mostly about his childhood, the constant press, and the loss of his mom. Just finished the 2nd one, and he wanted his new family to have a normal life. Good luck with that. One more to go while I finish the clean out.
You can't wait until life isn't hard anymore before you decide to be happy.
I watched Tar last night. Spectacular acting. Blanchette definitely deserves an Oscar for her performance.

I'm finally got to see Wakanda Forever last night. That was a Hel of a movie! OMG! I'm gonna use the spoiler in case anyone else has waited for it to be on Disney +. There are spoilers for most everything here.
► Show Spoiler
That movie has SO many emotional scenes, and they all felt earned IMO. I loved how much of a love letter it was to Chadwick Boseman while still moving the story of Wakanda forward.
Namor was another interesting villian who had a very good point but bad methods, like Killmonger (and it was great to see him again. I first saw him on "All My Children" and had been impressed with how well he played his character and have watched his career since then, so I'm really happy at how well he's been doing.)
Letitia Wright was a tour de force as Shuri. She really had to carry the movie as her character's emotional journey was the heart of the story, and she nailed it. With all the losses she's suffered in the MCU she had such a mix of emotions and played them all so well.
The thing I found most interesting about the movie, though, was one thing I hadn't expected. I'd was trying to avoid reading much about the movie before seeing it, but still had Ramonda's death and M'Baku becoming king spoiled for me. What I somehow missed was the female empowerment in this flick. Such a big deal was made about "Captain Marvel" being the first female lead Marvel film, the way all the female heroes were (briefly) showcased in the "A-Team" scene in "Endgame" and the multiple female leads in the upcoming "The Marvels," but it wasn't until I was watching "Wakanda Forever" that I realized it is Marvel's single biggest show of female empowerment to date.
You had Queen Ramonda, a strong, dignified leader who wasn't afraid to stand up to the United Nations; Shuri, who even before she became the Black Panther had demonstrated her mental, emotional and physical strength all throughout; Riri Williams, known as "Ironheart" in the comics, is another female genius who can more than handle herself in a fight; Nakia, penetrated Takolan and single-handedly rescued Shuri and Riri, among other feats of heroics and Okoye and Aneka, two of the all-female royal guard of Wakanda who then took on the role of Midnight Angels, warriors through and through. That SIX female heroes who led Wakanda and defended it. And no men had to come rescue them at any point. As much as the original Black Panther was celebrated for showcasing Black culture and Black issues, such as the after-effects of colonialism, this film should be celebrated for showcasing the strength and versatility of women.
And then there was the ending. Not the standard ending of the movie, but the real ending. The post-credit scene. In a way, it's a shame they stuck this part as a coda after the credits because it was such an emotional gut punch - in a good way - and such of a development for the overall Wakanda story it should have been in the movie proper, but the reveal that Nakia and T'Challa have a son was the perfect note to end this chapter on. I adore that Tousssint knew his father and that T'Challa had taken the opportunity to help his son get ready for his death. I felt joy seeing Shuri realize that a part of her beloved brother lived on, and again at hearing that Ramonda had gotten to meet her grandson while down in Haiti recruiting Nakia. The real special touch, though, was when Tousssint shared a secret with Shuri, that Tousssint is his Haitian name. When Shuri asked him in Xhosan "Who are you?" He said, with pride, that he is Prince T'Challa, son of King T'Challa. For as emotional of a movie as this was, it was a truly awesome moment.
Sorry to ramble on so much, but that was just the best movie I've seen in a while for so many reasons, and I just had to bubble over somewhere
I don't watch much TV except for nostalgia, travel, and nature documentaries. This weekend I watched two series on Apple TV, another couple installments in Earth at Night and first installment in Prehistoric Planet narrated by David Attenborough. To my mind, both are worth splurging $7 for a month (I have a regular Apple TV subscription, though, funnily since I don't watch much TV).
Thank you, Volkonski, the pecan pie video was interesting and I subscribed to his channel, there are many interesting historical dishes and those are fun. The UK Channel 4 site has a series called Heston's Feasts featuring Chef Heston recreating famous dishes from the UK's past. Victorian, Medieval, Tudor, Roman and Christmas. He does a lot of the science of recreating the dishes as well.

The Gilded Age is the new Julian Fellowes (Downtown Abbey) show, it's on HBO with nine episodes and renewed for Season 2. Just started it, it's the Gilded Age in 1880's NYC. It's the servants and the wealthy and Julian is a master of choreography and scene movement. So far it's enjoyable and very easy to watch. Christine Baranski is always a treat. There's also a lot with Clara Barton the founder of the Red Cross.
Wiki: The Gilded Age is an American historical drama television series created and written by Julian Fellowes for HBO that is set in the United States during the Gilded Age, the boom years of the 1880s in New York City. Originally announced in 2018 for NBC, it was later announced in May 2019 that the show was moved to HBO. The series premiered on January 24, 2022. In February 2022, the series was renewed for a second season. It has received mostly positive reviews, with particular praise for the costumes, cast and performances of lead actors Carrie Coon, Morgan Spector and Christine Baranski. It also has one of my favorites, Blake Ritson, been a fan since back when he did Starz's Da Vinci's Demons, he was also in The Crown. He always works.
Lots more Jock Porn for Neon -- 4 more episodes of Physical 100 have been released on Netflix, the team challenges are amazingly hard.
Mayfair Witches is up to Episode 6 (of 8), and the series, like Interview with the Vampire, has also been renewed for Season 2. Mayfair apparently debuted to the biggest audience in AMC's history. I admire the concept presentation (just The Witching Hour is like a 500-page book), but enjoyed Vampire much more. Apparently many agree. Vampire has already run its Season 1, now it's about when S2 will be released on both shows.
AMC made the brilliant buy of all the Anne Rice books, they call it "Immortal Universe", and there may be 3 more series coming soon:
Over the last few months, the Anne Rice Immortal Universe has come alive at AMC. First with the vibrant first season of Interview with the Vampire, and now with Mayfair Witches. Both series have been serving as an exciting introduction to a connected supernatural world—but there’s more to come, as executive producer Mark Johnson told Collider.
Johnson has a job that few could handle, as he is overseeing the creation of multiple TV series at once. He has to make sure every single thing is going according to plan—which includes being able to tell if the slate of Anne Rice series feels connected, while also being completely distinct from each other. During the interview, the executive producer told Collider's own Christina Radish what the core theme of the projects in development is and also discussed how they are approaching the potential spinoffs and crossovers:
“[W]e’re developing three other things, at the same time, all of them different. People ask me what these shows have in common, or what these books have in common, and I actually think it’s her characters, no matter how tortured or odd. Her vampires, unlike most vampires that we see all the time, are human beings. It’s not humans and vampires. There are human beings who happen to be vampires, and they all suffer from loss of love, lack of love, and lack of friendship. The idea that we all say, “Wouldn’t it be great to live forever?,” of course, that would be terrible. You’d fall in love with your partner, your parents would die, and you’d still be there, the same age. Some of the themes are the same. […] In 'Mayfair Witches,' there’s that whole middle section about the family and you go off to Haiti, and there’s a series in there. Is there a show to be made about Lasher [Jack Huston]? Is there a show to be made about the Fang Gang? There’s no book that is about the Talamasca, but I think there’s a great series about the Talamasca. Their job it is to monitor these extraordinary events and creatures, and not get involved, but to watch. So, I think the answer is yes, this will keep going.”

Tim Walz’ Golden Rule: Mind your own damn business!
The Low Country started tonight on CNN. It's about the Murdaugh stuff. Wow. It's basically 45 minutes into episode 1 and that Murdaugh family is a piece of work. I hadn't realized how corrupt even the original Murdaugh was, I guess I thought Alex father/grandfather were probably decent people and Alex ruined it all.
Nope. He comes into his corruption honestly, born and bred and trained to be what he is.

Neon texted me that the final episodes of Korean Jock Porn, Physical: 100, are now on Netflix. The next to last quests are really cool, trying not to give spoilers, but they are classic Greek mythological punishments, like how Zeus bound Ixion to an eternally burning wheel (that's not one of them). I'd be surprised if we don't see an American version of this.
Season 3 of Outer Banks just started on Netflix and rocketed to the #1 show. "Outer Banks is set in a coastal town along the Outer Banks of North Carolina, where there is a stark social divide between wealthy seasonal residents (like Foggy and Wifehorn) and working-class locals (who have the nicknames "Kooks" and "Pogues", respectively). The show follows a group of Pogue teenagers who live at The Cut, and are determined to find out what happened to the missing father of the group's ringleader, John B. Along the way, they discover a legendary treasure that is tied to John B's father." It's a fun, easy show.

"How TV dinners changed American cooking, forever"

American frozen food aisles wouldn’t be as jam-packed if it wasn’t for the TV dinner. Our desire for convenience in the kitchen has fueled a wave of food innovations, and it all began with the TV dinner. The TV dinner’s promise of a hot-and-ready meal in under 25 minutes laid the groundwork for convenience-centric meal options to become the norm today. “Convenience foods are always going to be important for the consumer,” said Phyllis Levy, the former executive director of new ventures at Campbell Soup Company. “People are busier than ever.” Frozen foods were among the fastest-growing grocery categories during the Covid-19 pandemic, bringing in $72.2 billion in retail sales in 2022, nearly a 31% increase compared to 2019. Along with the growing demand for frozen foods, new products like meal kits have highlighted that growing appetite in America for more contemporary forms of convenience. Watch this video to find out how TV dinners ushered in a new age of convenience in American kitchens, and how they led to a pandemic-era boom in frozen food sales.

I did watch this evening a movie somehow I missed -- Alex Cross. On Amazon Prime. Pretty decent, but no hot Korean hunks.

I just finished the third season of "All Creatures Great and Small." At first I preferred the original shows but I have come to see the current version as superior in cast, storylines, acting, and even scenery. So just about every aspect meets or exceeds the original imho while staying true to the book. Needs a fourth season!
