He got a room in the hospital last night (the value of having a daughter who's an RN to help grease the wheels of bureaucracy), but I still haven't talked to him. I have Musical Asskicking today at 8:30, so I'll wait until I get home to try to call him. He's pretty ill, I may not be able to talk much.

When he gets released, he'll have to spend 10 days or so in the nursing facility in the basement of the retirement community, so it will be a while before he can get up to his apartment again. And when he does, we're freeing up our schedule so we can get up there and help him get readjusted to life in the apartment.

Sister (Letitia) says he's looking much better this morning, has turned a corner and she thinks he's improving nicely. Still weak, still going to be in hospital a few days, but generally good news.

I'm still going to wait until afternoon to try to call. I'm dying to talk to him, but what he needs is rest, medication, rest, therapy, rest, better food than you get in a hospital, and more rest. I can't provide any of those things over the phone (or in person, for that matter), so I just have to be patient.

It's the times when I'm afraid I might never be able to talk to him again that are awful. And as bad as that is, one of these fine days it's really going to come true, hakuna matata. That will be the most awful day ever.

I want him to live forever. That's not going to happen, but that's where I am today. :towel:

She does. And she can talk to him in a way that I can't, because the two of them don't have the baggage. I'm truly lucky, because if they didn't get along so well, my life would be a little more worser. I picked the right lady to marry. ❤️

Anyway, we got to talk to him briefly last night. The fluid in his lungs was audible; he sounded terrible physically, but he was cogent and talking about why he's there and what the plan is to get him back home. We made it short and told him to rest and get better, and we'll see him when he gets back into the apartment.

So, another scary episode in which I was totally helpless and wondering if I might never talk to my dad again, but not () the end of the line. And there will be more scary episodes in the future in which I'll be totally helpless and wondering if I might never talk to my dad again. These are horrible, but he keeps coming back.

And one day, I know, he won't come back. So maybe I'll just have to do fifty more scary episodes, because the real nightmare is when they stop.

Today is a new day. Two years from today, we swear in a new president. Life is good, people are (crazy but) fundamentally good, the Universe and everything in it is endlessly fascinating, and I have to put up with the bad in order to enjoy the good. This week has been putting up with the bad stuff. :(

So now we have to wait for him to get back into the apartment, and we can go up there and spoil the old coot.

On the bright side, as long as he's around, nobody can call me a geezer, because that man can geeze WAY more better than I do.

Yeah, we talked to him yesterday, he sounds much better, says they might send him to rehab Monday. He's not in danger anymore, we're pretty sure. Well, except he's still 94.9 years old ...

So it's a year since a physician knew that I had covid in the early days, and I was sent to Honolulu to be seen by a gazillion doctors. (Sightly exaggerated.) It took a full day to fly there and back for each each appointment. It was exhausting and very painful, but I finally had help.

So now it's time to check me out again. Since my move to Honolulu, I can get labs & xrays less than a mile from my new home. I use my mobility scooter to get the clinic. (I stopped driving when my eyes sometimes went weird.) But I have to go the hospital tomorrow to follow up on one organ, and others to come. Five specialist doctors are lining me up to see how things are going.

Wish me luck!
