I read today that when King George IV visited Scotland in 1822 He wore a Kilt. But He wore tights because of the cold, and made sure the tights were flesh coloured because he didn't want the Scots to think he was a wimp.

What color is 'flesh'?

Totally invisible, like this
On my pale white Celtic skin that colour stands out like a bruise.

Yes, that's my point. Perhaps I was not clear because I was in shock (or being too clever). The first dude scoffed at "flesh-coloured band-aids" and the second dude agreed that there was no market for them. As if "flesh color" was one well-established color. Not remotely accurate. Cf that moment when white people realize that make-up and hair products for people of color is different. Not "custom," just "different."
I mean, there was a moment in my life (I was in India and needed a band-aid) when I too realized that the band-aids I had known all my life were the color they were so that they would more or less match my skin color, not because of some arcane medical reason that demanded that pale beige. And since there are many flesh colors, there are many band-aid colors. Even in the US.

Ya know, if they made clear band-aids, they'd match every skin tone.

I really have no idea why they don't just have clear strips. And they make pure white dressings as well, which don't match ANY skin tone. Those are the type I like using.
I just read that they launched a range of racially diverse bandages called "perfect blend" in 2005, but discontinued them as there was "a lack of interest" from customers. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/band-aid-r ... -bandages/

I think that one problem with "clear" bandages is that they aren't really clear. The gauze dressing that directly covers the wound is not clear. While the adhesive surrounding the dressing may be almost invisible, the dressing will not be, especially if it is soaked in blood.Suranis wrote: ↑Tue Jan 31, 2023 9:12 am I really have no idea why they don't just have clear strips. To me that is what it really comes down to. If people want them, they will buy them. Otherwise, the “problem” will take care of itself via poor sales.Suranis wrote: ↑Tue Jan 31, 2023 9:12 am I just read that they launched a range of racially diverse bandages called "perfect blend" in 2005, but discontinued them as there was "a lack of interest" from customers. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/band-aid-r ... -bandages/

It's kind of funny how something I thought was a fairly non-controversial meme turned into this whole discussion.
I would honestly be happier if this thing came in something other than black. Drill bit jammed, drill kept going and took my hand and wrist along for a ride. It's just a strain but it's going to keep me out of commission for a while and I'm not accustomed to sitting around twiddling my thumbs.
