I've decided to try my hand at blogging again, and my new site is up and open. It's called "Earthbound Valkyrie" and you can find it at https://ebvs.blog (I also added the addy to my signature if you want to find it later :) )

I'm trying out a new commenting system, so if you'd like to help me test it out, please comment on any of the posts and let me know of any problems you run into. You might see a red banner at the top of the page saying OAuth is missing, but you can ignore that. I'm not sure how to fix it yet, but whatever is going on, it doesn't seem to actually cause any problem with signing in to the comment system (you can log in with Google, Discus or WP) or leaving a message.

I don't write fiction normally, but one of the sites I'm starting to post at - Vocal.Media - is having a contest to write the first chapter of a hypothetical magical realism book starting with a sentence they give you - "Every night at midnight, the purple clouds came out to dance with the blushing sky." I decided I'd give it a go, even though it's the first time I've written a whole chapter of any story. It's only about 1100 words long. Vocal estimates it's about a 6 min read.

I don't plan on writing the rest of the book, but I'd appreciate any comments anyone would care to offer. You can leave comments here, at Vocal or on my Facebook page (https://facebook.com/kriseldagray)

Here's where to read it:

I've posted a new story a Medium. It's some thoughts on book banning and fascism. The link here is a friend link so you can read it without being a member of Medium:

IF you do go read it, I will get a few cents (literally) which doesn't cost you anything, dosn't add up very fast, but makes me feel good, so there's that :D My husband is having fun right now dealing with the fact that he's always wanted to be a writer, and has written a few short stories over the years, but has yet to make even a penny at it, and I - who just decided a couple months ago to see if I could earn anything for my writing - am up to a total of 50 cents (woot! )

I just posted a new poem at my Vocal.media site as part of a challenge they're having. The goal is to write a tautogram, which is a poem where every word starts with the same letter. Just thought I'd throw the link up in case anyone's interested in checking it out :)

(And yes, if you go to the link, I'll get a few pennies, but it doesn't cost you anything)

Sorry, I haven't been around as much as usual the last few days. Nothing's wrong. In fact, it's actually kinda going well for a change. I've finally found something I can do that my disability doesn't screw with - Writing. Specifically, trying to write a book. I'm about 5 chapters into the rough draft of it - around 15,000 words.

It's set in an alternate US where humans and supernatural creatures co-exist, though not everyone is happy about it. The main characters are a set of twins who have been through a significant ordeal and now find themselves on opposite paths trying to come to grips with the changes in their lives.

Obviously, it's a paranormal story (but NOT a paranormal romance - I don't think I could write a serious romance - though it may have a low-key romance in it, depending on how well the characters get along), and, of course, it's going to have Norse influences, but I figure my first time out, I should use stuff I either know or can make up because I get to set the rules of the world.

At any rate, I'm pretty excited about it. I'll probably slow down the pace of writing soon and be back more regularly.

I hope things are going well for everyone else! I'm trying to keep an eye on other personal threads, but if I miss something, please don't take it personally. I do care about you all!

the folks behind NaNoWriMo also have Camp NaNoWriMo where you can work towards any goal you choose instead of the November standard of 50,000 words in a first draft of a new novel.

I started this months Camp with a goal of writing at least 20,000 words for the book I'm working on, and had until July 31st to meet that goal. I ended up meeting it today - with half the month left! In terms of a paperback novel, that's about 60-70 pages. :)

I'm not sure why the image is so big - I've resized it so it should be smaller, but I want to show it off, so I'm leaving it. :D
