On an iPad, you hold down the u key for a moment and five different u's with various markings appear for you to select from. Does the Kindle do the same thing?
It works! :groupdance: Thank you!!!!!!!!
You might want to explore that long key press with numbers and symbols too. If I long press on the iPad’s zero, I’m presented with the ° symbol. A long hold on = gives me the alternatives of ≠ and ≈.

This is getting off topic, but Putin just changed that policy - Russia allows gas debt payments in foreign currencies

The head of Türkiye's High Election Board (YSK) has confirmed the presidential election will go to a run-off between President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and his main rival on May 28, as neither can reach the 50 per cent threshold to win outright.

Key points:
With around 35,000 votes left to be counted, Mr Erdoğan had 49.51 per cent support and his rival Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu had 44.88 per cent
The remaining uncounted votes were not enough to tip Mr Erdoğan into outright victory
The results showed the alliance led by Mr Erdoğan's ruling party looked like it would keep its majority in parliament

The YSK Chairman Ahmet Yener told reporters on Sunday (local time) that with around 35,000 votes left to be counted, Mr Erdoğan had 49.51 per cent support and his rival Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu had 44.88 per cent.

Election officials said the second round will allow Turks to decide if their nation remains under the increasingly authoritarian President's firm grip for a third decade, or if it can embark on the more democratic course promised by Mr Kılıçdaroğlu.

Mr Erdoğan faced electoral headwinds due to a cost-of-living crisis and criticism over the government's response to a devastating February earthquake.

As in previous years, Mr Erdoğan led a highly divisive campaign.

The other party that got 5% is a far right wing party that Edrogen uses similar to the Republicans use the libertarian party - To syphon off votes from the opposition, to do nothing buyt badmouth the opposition while Edrogen keeps his Halo shining, and in a run off all their supporters will vote Edrogen.

ISTANBUL (AP) — President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Saturday that Turkey may part ways with the European Union, implying that the country is thinking about ending its bid to join the 27-nation bloc.

“The EU is making efforts to sever ties with Turkey,” he told reporters before departing for the 78th U.N. General Assembly in New York.

“We will evaluate the situation, and if needed we will part ways with the EU.”

If that's supposed to be a threat to encourage the EU to be nicer to Turkey... uh... he is not reading the signals right.

Turkey's Erdogan says US move of aircraft carrier closer to Israel will lead to Gaza massacre

https://www.reuters.com/world/middle-ea ... 023-10-10/
Turkey's President Tayyip Erdogan on Tuesday criticised the United States for moving a carrier strike group closer to Israel, saying that it would commit "serious massacres" in Gaza.

Following a surprise attack by Hamas militants on Israel on Saturday, U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said on Sunday that the U.S. will be moving a carrier strike group, which includes the USS Gerald R. Ford, closer to Israel.

"What will the aircraft carrier of the U.S. do near Israel, why do they come? What will boats around and aircraft on it will do? They will hit Gaza and around, and take steps for serious massacres there," Erdogan said in a joint press conference with Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer in Ankara.

Erdogan has previously said that Turkey was ready to mediate between Israeli and Palestinian forces to ensure calm.

Erdogan is smoking crack if he thinks the US is going to launch airstrikes against Gaza.

Right?

Primarily it is a show of force and support. Practically they may assist in surveillance and possibly interventions in international waters near Israel. There is still the possibility that some elements may try some naval operations towards the coast line. Technically it will keep the Russians away from the area.

Turkey's Erdogan says Hamas is not terrorist organisation, cancels trip to Israel

https://www.reuters.com/world/middle-ea ... 023-10-25/
Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan, in his strongest comments yet on the Gaza conflict, said on Wednesday the Palestinian militant group Hamas was not a terrorist organisation but a liberation group fighting to protect Palestinian lands.

NATO member Turkey condemned the civilian deaths caused by Hamas's Oct. 7 rampage in southern Israel, but also urged Israeli forces to act with restraint in their response. Ankara has strongly criticised Israel's bombardment of Gaza.

"Hamas is not a terrorist organisation, it is a liberation group, 'mujahideen' waging a battle to protect its lands and people," he told lawmakers from his ruling AK Party, using an Arabic word denoting those who fight for their faith.

Unlike many of its NATO allies and the European Union, Turkey does not consider Hamas a terrorist organisation and hosts members of the group on its territory. Ankara backs a two-state solution to the decades-old Israel-Palestinian conflict.

Erdogan also slammed Western powers for supporting Israel's bombing of Gaza and called for an immediate ceasefire, the unhindered entry of humanitarian aid into Gaza and for Muslim countries to work together to stop the violence.

"The perpetrators of the massacre and the destruction taking place in Gaza are those providing unlimited support for Israel," Erdogan said. "Israel's attacks on Gaza, for both itself and those supporting them, amount to murder and mental illness."

Masked assailants launch deadly attack on Italian church in Istanbul
One man died after armed assailants opened fire in an Italian church in Istanbul during Sunday mass in an apparent assassination attempt that was swiftly condemned by Pope Francis.

Issued on: 28/01/2024 - 12:35 Modified: 28/01/2024 - 13:26
NEWS WIRES

The attack occurred at around 11:40 (0840 GMT) at the Santa Maria church in the Sariyer district of Istanbul on the European side and was carried out by two masked men, Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya said on social media.

Turkish officials said the attack looked like a targeted attack against one person rather than against the Catholic church.

The minister said an individual identified only as C.T. -- who was among those attending Sunday's service -- was the target of the gun attack and lost his life.

An investigation had been launched to find the attackers, Yerlikaya added, who fled the scene after the shooting.

Local officials said around 40 people attended the mass.
