Uvalde, Texas
CNN

Uvalde County Sheriff Ruben Nolasco rushed toward Robb Elementary School when calls came in that a man was firing his gun after crashing his pickup truck on May 24.

He was one of the 376 officers who went to help children and teachers. But, unlike the vast majority, he had the rank to easily take charge, he had vital information about the shooter and a call about victims in a classroom, and others looked to him as a commander on the scene with up-to-date information.

But despite more than 30 years of law enforcement experience for the city and county, despite knowing not only his own staff but many in the command structures in the multiple agencies that arrived at Robb, Nolasco chose to stay at a different crime scene, already under control, as a far greater disaster initially unfolded. He did not take charge when he did arrive and did not ensure that cries for help from girls trapped with injured classmates and teachers were acted on.

In the days after the massacre that killed 19 children and two teachers, as demands rose for answers to why it took 77 minutes to stop the gunman once he got into the school, Nolasco was comforted by Texas Gov. Greg Abbott and US Sen. Ted Cruz, his political allies.

Colorado shooter's 2021 case dropped for lack of cooperation

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) — The Colorado Springs gay nightclub shooter had charges dropped in a 2021 bomb threat case after family members who were terrorized in the incident refused to cooperate, according to the district attorney and court documents unsealed Thursday.

The charges were dropped despite authorities finding a “tub” full of bomb-making chemicals and later receiving warnings from other relatives that suspect Anderson Lee Aldrich was sure to hurt or murder a set of grandparents if freed, according to the unsealed documents.

In a letter last November to state District Court Judge Robin Chittum, the relatives painted a picture of an isolated, violent person who did not have a job and was given $30,000 that was spent largely on the purchase of 3D printers to make guns.

Aldrich tried to reclaim guns that were seized after the threat, but authorities did not return the weapons, El Paso County District Attorney Michael Allen said.

Allen spoke hours after Chittum unsealed the case, which included allegations that Aldrich threatened to kill the grandparents and to become the “next mass killer” more than a year before the nightclub attack that killed five people.

The suspect’s mother and the grandparents derailed that earlier case by evading prosecutors’ efforts to serve them with a subpoena, leading to a dismissal of the charges after defense attorneys said speedy trial rules were at risk, Allen said.

Apparently he jokingly pulled the trigger twice. It didn't go off the first time, so he pulled back the slide and shot again. That simply does not sound like any kind of accidental shooting to me.

FFS. Pulled the trigger twice? Straight up homicide, IMO.

Back when I ran bars and restaurants, in Ohio there was a regular asshat that came in and drank Jack Daniel’s heavily. I had left for a drive around to look at competitors parking lots and when I got back he was smashed.

Long story short, he told me my brains would look really good spattered across the bottles behind the bar (I was cutting him off), and waved a 357 around. I told him I was from Texas and if he pointed that gun at me, I would be over the bar, break his arm and shove it up his ass so fast he wouldn’t have a clue ( and pushed the Police Call button under the bar).

The police took him away, put after closing, when the doors were locked and we were closing and counting money, he comes banging on the door— the police knew him and let him go…

It turns out he had threatened other patrons earlier in the night, pointing the gun at their feet and telling them to Dance. The asshole owners brother had been serving him. When I closed registers, he had an open tab for 22 shots of Jack.

This cop was sober? And this damn stupid? How many people were in the room? There is more to this story!

Debunking The Club Q Shooter’s “Nonbinary” Claim
https://www.nbcnews.com/nbc-out/out-new ... -rcna58969
Xavier Kraus, who said he lived next door to the suspect and the suspect’s mother from August 2021 to September 2022, said he believes the claim that Aldrich is nonbinary is “a total troll on the community, and a total troll on the system.” Aldrich, he said, never used they/them pronouns with him or mentioned being nonbinary. Kraus said he and the suspect were close friends until a few months ago, when the two had a falling out. Aldrich made racist and homophobic statements, including saying they “hate faggots,” Kraus alleged.

Jared Holt, senior research manager at a global nonprofit combating online extremism and disinformation, said he was “immediately skeptical” of the Colorado suspect’s assertion. That skepticism only grew this week after NBC News reported that the FBI is looking into two websites connected to the suspect. Holt said the site reminds him of 4chan, a forum website that became popular in the early 2010s. People can post anonymously on the site, and it has become a home for violent extremists.

Officials in Uvalde County met Monday to hear the findings of an independent review into the Uvalde County Sheriff’s Office’s policies at the time of the massacre at Robb Elementary that took the lives of 21 people.

Richard Carter, the attorney selected to conduct the review in the wake of the May 24 shooting, presented the report to the Uvalde County Commissioners Court. CNN has obtained a copy of the report.

County commissioners met behind closed doors for more than 90 minutes to review the report and meet with victims’ family members.

The conclusion of Carter’s review comes after months of reporting by CNN about the law enforcement response to the shooting, including that Uvalde County Sheriff Ruben Nolasco had vital information about the shooter that was not shared as the incident unfolded. It was just the latest revelation of senior law enforcement officers not taking command or following protocol to stop an active shooter and get swift treatment to victims.

Carter’s inquiry, which was conducted over about two months, dealt strictly with the sheriff’s office’s policies, he said Monday.
Not stated in the first few paragraphs quote, but CNN online is now talking about how the head cop (Nolasco?) had not completed active shooter training.

Story at the Guardian

Four cops were ambushed by three shooters in Queensland. 2 Cops died at the scene, as did a neighbour who tried to help. 2 cops are in hospital.

The 3 miscreants, 2 men and a woman, were shot dead some hours later after a standoff.

The ring leader was reported missing in December 2020 but made contact so they stopped looking. Then he was reported missing again the other day. It looks like the report was a trap to set up the ambush.

The guy, a former school principal, was a big conspiracy nut, and claimed the Port Arthur Massacre was a false flag op, and didn't trust government.

I'm not holding my breath till we find out he has aggressive form as a Sovcit.

Experts have warned about the violent potential of Australians expressing anti-government sentiment and espousing sovereign citizen ideology, as Queensland police flag an investigation into the Wieambilla shooters’ online activity.

On Tuesday, Queensland Police commissioner Katarina Carroll told the ABC that police are looking into the web history of Gareth and Nathaniel Train, the two gunmen who killed three people, including two police officers, on a remote property in Queensland’s Western Downs.

An online user who went by the name “Gareth Train” was an active participant in Australian fringe conspiracy forums and websites. The account had frequently posted paranoid, bizarre comments that showed anti-vaccine, anti-government and anti-police views.

Parents charged after 4-year-old dies from gunshot wound in Gastonia
The child's parents and another relative have been arrested. The shooting was reported from a mobile home on Cindy Lane.

Three people are in jail after a 4-year-old boy was shot and killed in Gaston County Tuesday afternoon, police said.

The Gaston County Police Department responded to a reported shooting at a home on Cindy Lane in Gastonia a few minutes before 4:30 p.m. When officers got to the home, they found a 4-year-old boy who had been shot. The child died at the scene.
:snippity:
During the investigation, detectives determined the child's mother and father, as well as another relative who lived at the home, failed to properly secure the gun.

The child who was killed and one of his siblings found the weapon. While the other sibling was holding the gun, police say she fired a shot, killing her 4-year-old brother.

The Gaston County District Attorney's Office decided to charge all three adults at the home with involuntary manslaughter, felony child abuse and storing a firearm in a manner accessible to a minor.

Saco parents sue Vermont homeowner over 3-year-old son’s accidental shooting death[/b]
The family of Peter Bunce, 3, allege that Rebecca Post was reckless and negligent when she failed to inform them that she had loaded, unsecured guns in her home.

The parents of a 3-year-old Saco boy who died of an accidental self-inflicted gunshot wound are suing the Vermont woman who owned the loaded gun he found in a bedside table.

Greg and Evelyn Bunce, the parents of Peter Bunce, allege in a civil lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court in Vermont that Rebecca Post was negligent and reckless when she failed to tell them that she had unsecured, loaded firearms in her home. While staying at Post’s house in Barre during a family trip last year, Peter Bunce found a loaded pistol and died after he accidentally fired a round into his head.

He died on June 26, 2021.

Mark Franco, an attorney with Drummond Woodsum who represents the Bunce family, said Peter’s death was “a senseless, preventable tragedy.”

“The Bunce family remains devastated by the loss of Peter and their lives have been changed forever,” Franco said in a statement on Thursday.

The lawsuit also names Post Insurance & Financial Inc., a company owned by Post’s father where she is a manager. Post kept guns in her home in part to protect her home office on Post Insurance’s behalf, according to the lawsuit, which says the company and Post should have known that an unsecured, loaded pistol “presented a grave danger to children.”

It was a similar aged sister that pulled the trigger.
:snippity:
Brehm said Michael was accidentally shot and killed by his sister, who is about the same age. Brehm said she thought the gun was secured in their home.

Prosecutors said the gun belonged to Sturghill, the children’s uncle. Neither Mendoza-Saucedo nor Sturghill was home when the shooting happened Tuesday.

She pleaded to the judge on Wednesday.

“I have never been in trouble and this is the worst thing that’s ever happened to me and it’s going to scar me for life,” she said.

Brehm said she said Sturghill had said he would put the gun away before he left, but that the gun was left behind and the children found it.

FBI: Minnesota man was making arsenal, revered mass shooters

Fri, December 16, 2022 at 7:37 PM GMT+1

SAVAGE, Minn. (AP) — A Minnesota man who idolized the shooter who killed five people at a gay nightclub in Colorado Springs and was allegedly building an arsenal of automatic weapons to use against police was arrested this week after a retired police officer reported his behavior to authorities, according to federal charges.

The warning signs -- strikingly similar to the circumstances that preceded the shooting at Colorado's Club Q last month -- prompted a monthslong federal investigation into River William Smith, and resulted in a far different outcome.

Smith, who also expressed interest in joining neo-Nazi paramilitary groups and fired an AK-47-style rifle in his home in 2019, was charged with federal weapons counts this week. FBI agents arrested the 20-year-old man Wednesday after he purchased three hand grenades and four auto sears from an FBI informant, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office. An auto sear is a device that turns a firearm into an automatic weapon.

Smith, who lives in the Minneapolis suburb of Savage, had told the informant that the shooter who killed five people at an LGBTQ nightclub last month was a “hero,” called Black people “agents of satan,” and said he was ready to engage the police “with armor and full autos," according to an FBI affidavit.

Smith remained in custody Friday and is scheduled to appear in court Tuesday. Online court records show he is being represented by the Office of the Federal Defender. Phone and email messages seeking comment on his behalf were not immediately returned Friday.

The timely FBI investigation and arrest provided a sharp contrast to the warning signs that were ignored and earlier charges that were dismissed against Anderson Lee Aldrich, who was charged with hate crimes in the mass shooting at a Colorado gay nightclub, said George Washington University Law Professor Jonathan Turley.

“The only way to protect the public is to move expeditiously and aggressively,” he said of potentially violent people like Smith. “That was a missing element in the earlier case. In many ways, it’s a cautionary tale for law enforcement: These early signals cannot be missed."

In both cases, the suspects’ grandparents had been previously injured in run-ins with them but had later appeared to enable their alarming behavior.

In Smith’s case, authorities say his grandmother drove him to the shooting range where he was seen practicing shooting drills, firing off hundreds of rounds in just a few minutes. Relatives of Aldrich’s grandparents have said they gave Aldrich about $30,000 to buy a 3-D printer that they said he used to make gun parts.

A Colorado SWAT team in 2019 uncovered a stockpile of more than 100 pounds (45 kilograms) of explosive material, firearms and ammunition in Aldrich's home. Aldrich was charged after the standoff, but the case unraveled. Authorities say that less than two years later, on Nov. 19, Aldrich fatally shot five people.

In Smith's case, he was 17 when he fired an AK-47-style rifle in the house where he lived with his grandparents in 2019, according to court documents. His grandmother, who received a minor injury to her hand, told officers at the time that she had taken two pistols from Smith and hidden them in her closet. The grandparents told police they were concerned for their safety if Smith was released from custody.

Mississippi officials: Woman and officer shot each other

Fri, December 16, 2022 at 10:18 PM GMT+1

BAY ST. LOUIS, Miss. (AP) — A Mississippi police officer shot and killed a woman even as the woman was fatally shooting the officer and his partner in the parking lot of a Gulf Coast motel on Wednesday, authorities now say.

Mississippi Public Safety Commissioner Sean Tindell said in a statement and interviews that body camera footage, autopsies and other forensic tests have helped to clarify what happened during the encounter.

Tindell said Amy Anderson, a 43-year-old Ocean Springs veterinarian, had checked into a motel in Bay St. Louis before dawn on Wednesday with her 8-year-old daughter and then asked the motel manager to call police.

“She thought someone was following her,” Tindell told the Sun Herald of Biloxi. “It appears she had a mental break.”

Bay St. Louis officers Branden Estorffe, 23, and Sgt. Steven Robin, 34, arrived and spent 40 minutes talking to Anderson, who officials say told officers that she believed someone was following her in a white pickup truck and was threatening her life.

After the officers decided to call state Child Protection Services, Anderson and the daughter began loading Anderson’s brown Toyota Highlander to leave the motel. Tindell said body camera footage shows that Robin was still interacting with Anderson when she shot Robin once in the head from the driver’s seat of the SUV at 4:19 a.m.

Estorffe approached, exchanging shots with Anderson that ultimately killed both the second officer and the woman. Anderson died from a gunshot wound to the chest. Tindell said an autopsy and other forensic testing showed the round that killed her came from Estorffe’s gun. That contradicts the initial statement from state investigators on Wednesday that they believed Anderson had shot and killed herself.

Robin died in the parking lot. Estorffe, died a short time later at a hospital.
