The Constitution is "sacrosanct"? I think not. (WaPo gift article)

OK, first here's the gift article, you got the link.

Trump opened his fat mouf yesterday and said we need to terminate the Constitution because he was treated so unfairly, boo hoo, boo hoo, everybody play violin. :violin:

And the White House, for whatever stupid reason, felt the need to say no, we're not really going to suspend the Constitution.
“Attacking the Constitution and all it stands for is anathema to the soul of our nation and should be universally condemned,” White House spokesman Andrew Bates said in a statement, calling the Constitution a “sacrosanct document.”
... and I don't really want to get into a discussion about what the word sacrosanct means, but my point is, we have changed the Constitution with amendments many times over the years. Twenty seven times, in actual fact. And the Constitution is not ready for the 21st century, as proved by Donald Trump himself.

It didn't protect us. He got in office for four years, and our whole political system damn near died, and we ended up with rioters trashing the United States Capitol.

I'm still not over that, so you know. :smokeears:

I think we need to keep changing the Constitution to keep up with emerging reality.

But I fear that we'll never pass another good amendment.

Maybe some bad ones. :smoking:

:confuzzled: how come that there are Amendments?

I understand that one can argue "sacrosant" as to the basic historic document that defines the US in its current form. Moving from a democracy with republic representation to a banana republic ought to be condemned.

I guess some people at SCOTUS skipped that part in their law studies.

According to Monticello.Org, the quote appears on the southeast wall of the Jefferson Memorial in Washington D.C.

Thank you. I suspected so, but wasn't sure. There's a lot of fake Jefferson's out there.
