Poor Ol' Rooster
In horrible terrible very bad awful fizzikal therapy noos, the damned fizzikal therapist told me showed me in irrefutable ways that I really have to give up my weightlifting classes. They are not helping my shoulders, and in fact they are making things worse, and I subconsciously knew this, but I am seriously going to miss my buddies and the social interaction.
But if I give up two weightlifting classes a week and substitute three sessions with the damned fizzikal therapist, then I am getting a little more total exercise, sorta.
And I think I can still do the cardio-kickboxing/martial arts/dance classes, as long as I don't throw too many jabs. Uppercuts don't hurt the shoulders, and I can cheat enough on hooks to make them look sort of okay (and use my core more anyway), and I can still do everything in the class that requires a lot of movement of my poor abused legs. So it's really just forward punches (jab and cross) that I just can't do properly, but I can live with that.
And here's the bottom line, because this whole fizzikal therapy thing is a last resort, as I have said. After discussing with ol' Wifehorn at some length, we are giving the fizzikal therapist dude until early January, which will be about 8 weeks. If I have made significant progress by then, I'll keep going with him (and ol' Wifehorn and I might be able to do a river cruise in Europe this spring).
But if I put 8 solid weeks into the fizzikal therapy and it's not really helping, I will go ahead and schedule two reverse shoulder replacement surgeries for 2023, happy new year to me.
My next appointment is at 10 this morning. But we're on the way to get an xmas tree now. Bizzy.

Side story: I worked for a small company in another lifetime. A mature lady who had worked with the owner for decades as operations manager was surprise gifted a PT Cruiser by him. She friggin hated it. She called it a Pet Hearse.

I drive a 2003 PT Cruiser, cobalt blue with wood grain side panels. 97,000 miles on it when I got it last year, $1500 cash, and I freaking love it! Even so, the minute they find a new engine for my Pathfinder and get it dropped in, it's back to that beast.

I had an 03, red with the flame decals, but only on the fenders. I paid for the whole package but didn't want them on the hood. It's long gone but now I drive a Nissan Rogue. I figure my Cruiser was just ahead of its time.sugar magnolia wrote: ↑Wed Nov 23, 2022 1:13 pm I drive a 2003 PT Cruiser, cobalt blue with wood grain side panels. 97,000 miles on it when I got it last year, $1500 cash, and I freaking love it! I have been given to understand, by folks I trust, that the PT Cruizer was close, very close, extremely close, to the Edsel in terms of marketability due to... just about everything related to 'proper' automobile design.
Has everybody heard about the bird?

Today I learned that the 120 cc of fluid the doctor drained out of my left shoulder is about 4.1 fluid ounces, or a little more than 8 tablespoons.
But he said he had to drain it first, before he could put in the cortisone.
I didn't complain about it. My friend Slim is going through worse.

That's exactly what my doctor did when I had issues with my knee in 2017. I don't remember how much fluid they removed, I just remember that I was astounded that it was that much. They then used that same needle to put in the cortisone. I was amazed at how quickly that eased the pain in my knee!

Yeah, my shoulder doesn't hurt unless I use it, which is actually a big improvement.
'Course, the real test is cardio-kickboxing class at 8 am.

Maybe you need to take it easy. Maybe you got roped in by watching too many Chuck Norris/Christie Brinkley infomercials in your youth.

In Fizzikal Therapy news, this is working for me.
I think I mentioned, I can't raise my left arm straight out in front of me and up over my head. Your range of motion doing that should be 170° (Fahrenheit, not Centigrade ) and when I walked in the door of the fizzikal therapy joint, I was measured (with a goniometer) with 60°. My arm simply would not go any higher, and it hurt.
Today I went as high as 113°, and generally 110°. That's 50 degrees of improvement already, and I am noticing other things that qualify as significant improvement. I showed them that I have been putting principles into action, and I have a new way of getting out of bed that protects my shoulder and back, and is painless.
And I reminded them of the reality:
If'n they can fix me up pretty much, I get to go on a river cruise in Europe with my lovely bride this coming spring.
But if they can't make enough progress, I will have to schedule a reverse shoulder replacement instead, followed by another one when I finish rehab on the first.
So no pressure, guys. But fix me!
... and they seem to be having some success.
