Is she the one who stole Pelosi's laptop and then tried to sell it?

This jury has been out for a long time.
Assault on the Capitol (DC)
Guilty of participating in civil disorder and impeding police.
Hung on theft of laptop* and obstruction.
DOJ is asking for immediate remand to prison.
*There must have been some potential evidence that was not allowed in court. I’m pretty sure there were social media accounts at the time showing Riley attempting to sell the laptop. (Of course, offering to sell something on the internet is not proof that you possess the thing; maybe the DOJ didn’t nail down that link.)
EDIT: I am reading now that investigators never found the laptop, and the allegation that Riley was attempting to sell it may have come from an ex-romantic partner. Supposedly there were pictures of Riley with a laptop that she claimed was Pelosi’s, but that’s not proof it was Pelosi’s. So it’s possible that one or more jurors could not discount the possibility that Riley didn’t steal the laptop, but wanted to make it look like she had in order to build up her Trumpist insurrectionist street cred, and the whole thing was sensationalized by a spurned lover. Oh vey. Anyway, if DOJ can connect the dots more convincingly, they can take another bite at that apple.

Thanks to the headline accusations, she'll forever be known as the person who "stole Pelosi's laptop". But my impression is that the government never had strong evidence she stole or ever possessed the laptop herself (in part for reasons in the EDIT above). Video only showed her cheering on the person stealing a laptop, reportedly used only for presentations, from a conference table within Pelosi's suite, and saying he should wear gloves. For that she was charged with ABETTING the theft, and the jury couldn't even convict on that.Gupwalla wrote: ↑Mon Nov 21, 2022 3:40 pm Guilty of participating in civil disorder and impeding police.

Sentencing today in Jan 6 case of Josh Hughes of Montana. Feds seek nearly 4-years prison saying he "roamed the halls and menaced the overpowered police, chasing a lone Capitol Police officer as the crowd around him, including his brother, yelled violent & angry threats"
Court has unsealed another Jan 6 case.
Meanchem Cohen of Brooklyn is charged. He's accused of entering Senate wing door at 2:24pm, recording videos of confrontation and of people scaling Capitol wall, commenting "Yeah man, the wall is coming down"

Is Godwin's Law now obsolete?
In the past, comparisons of discussion participants to Nazis or Hitler, were usually a sure sign that the discussion was effectively over and had devolved into name-calling.
But, as I said, its not possible to avoid Nazi comparisons.
It is impossible, in any discussion of the events or aftermath of January 6, to avoid comparisons to Nazis. Indeed, some of the participants have expressed admiration for Adolf Hitler and the Nazi movement in general.Wikipedia wrote:Godwin's law, short for Godwin's law (or rule) of Nazi analogies,[1] is an Internet adage asserting that as an online discussion grows longer (regardless of topic or scope), the probability of a comparison to Nazis or Adolf Hitler approaches 1.

Judge says Trump’s political actions around 2020 election not protected by ‘absolute immunity’
By Katelyn Polantz, CNN Reporter, Crime and Justice
Updated 8:59 AM EST, Tue November 29, 2022
—
A federal judge in Washington, DC, on Monday said that Donald Trump doesn’t have “absolute immunity,” as the former president claimed he should, in response to a lawsuit in its early stages related to Trump’s actions around the 2020 presidential election.
Civil rights groups have sued Trump for trying to disenfranchise voters. While Trump’s lawyers argue he can’t be held liable in civil lawsuits because of immunity around the presidency, Judge Emmet Sullivan of the DC District Court on Monday disagreed.
Sullivan is simply allowing the NAACP and the Michigan Welfare Rights Organization to rewrite their lawsuit against Trump. The judge hasn’t determined yet whether Trump is actually liable for what they claim.
Sullivan said Trump’s political conduct wouldn’t be part of his official duties, giving him less legal protection.
“If Former President Trump disrupted the certification of the electoral vote count, as Plaintiffs allege here, such actions would not constitute executive action in defense of the Constitution. For these reasons, the Court concludes that Former President Trump is not immune from monetary damages in this suit,” Sullivan wrote.
Still, Sullivan had harsh words about Trump’s response to the 2020 and 2022 elections. That combative response, Sullivan wrote, could show that Trump could still “pose a very substantial risk in the future to Plaintiffs’ fundamental right to vote.”
“President Trump continues to spread false claims about the 2022 elections and continues to attempt to pressure officials into nullifying the election results: Plaintiffs extensively allege the efforts of Former President Trump and his allies as recently as March 2022 to get state officials to overturn the election results; to endorse and provide financial support to candidates for office who supported his false claims of election fraud; all while fundraising for the 2024 Presidential Election. These allegations are perhaps the opposite of what the Trump Defendants term ‘vague suggestions of fear or intimidation,’” the judge wrote.

I think one thing all these asshats have in common is that they think they are special. They have zero understanding that their actions affect many others, usually total strangers. Yet, when they are convicted and face jail, they want special treatment for any number of reasons.
In their mind it is OK to inconvenience others or to make other peoples' lives worse. But heaven forbid that they suffer personally. For some of these people, a jail sentence is insufficient.
