DOJ probing Live Nation and Ticketmaster for antitrust violations

The investigation predates this week's Taylor Swift concert ticket fiasco.

This week, Taylor Swift’s enormous popularity broke Ticketmaster’s system for selling concert tickets to her millions of fans.

As my co-author, Sam Hariharan, and I wrote in a 2010 case about the merger between Ticketmaster and Live Nation, that deal has exerted a Chokehold on Live Entertainment ever since.

While antitrust concerns were raised at the time of the deal, they were mostly brushed aside. Sadly for concert goers, that monopoly has stifled the competition that might have enabled the creation of stronger rivals that could have lowered ticket prices and boosted the effectiveness of ticketing systems.

Completely separate them.

Period.

Two unrelated ownership groups. No mutual BoD members.

They should have never been allowed to merge in the first place.
