The husband of Nancy Pelosi, the House speaker, returned home six days after being beaten with a hammer by an assailant who targeted his wife.

Six days after suffering a fractured skull in a vicious attack, Paul Pelosi, the husband of Speaker Nancy Pelosi, has been discharged from the Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital.

Mr. Pelosi, 82, is resting at home, recovering from the injuries to his head, arm and hand. He spent most of his time at the hospital in the intensive care unit, according to a person familiar with the matter.

“The Pelosi family is thankful for the beautiful outpouring of love, support and prayers from around the world,” Ms. Pelosi said in a statement. “Paul is grateful to the 911 operator, emergency responders, trauma care team, I.C.U. staff and the entire Z.S.F.G.H. medical staff for their excellent and compassionate lifesaving treatment he received after the violent assault in our home.”

She added that her husband “remains under doctors’ care as he continues to progress on a long recovery process and convalescence. He is now home surrounded by his family who request privacy.”

In a historic address, Nancy Pelosi announced on the House floor that she will NOT be running for leadership in the next Congress. BUT she's staying on as a Member of Congress for San Francisco. She'll be able to advise behind the scenes and that makes things a little easier but it's still bittersweet. As a legislator, vote counter, fundraiser, and face of the Democratic Party for decades, she'll be missed as Speaker. But the future awaits and seeing how GenZ is really getting involved is wonderful to see. Thank you, Nancy!

Pelosi already had said she wouldn't seek to be the conference's leader past this session. So she's sticking to her word.

And now is a good time to pass the torch; let the next generation cut its teeth when the House won't be pressing the president's agenda.

Next session of Congress is probably her last.

I doubt an AOC will be elected as leader, but I expect the younger cohort to demand a seat at the table.

Hoyer isn't running for Minority Leader and Clyburn said he looks forward to assisting the new generation of House Democratic leadership, specifically naming names. So there appears to be a trifecta ready for the leadership roles: Hakeem Jeffries (NY) as Minority Leader, Katherine Clark (MA) and Pete Aguilar (CA).

This is great! It would have been better had the Democrats retained control of the House, but it is still a big step. If the Democrats could rebrand themselves as the party of youth and inclusion that is fighting to help working class people and actually carry that message to ALL the voters I think the Republican party would implode and be forced to purge its Trumpist element. If President Biden and Vice President Harris announced that they would not seek re-election (and avoid even the appearance that the prosecution of Trump is political) this could be a true watershed moment in American politics.

Anyway, Nancy has done well and, by stepping down, has joined a very select list of politicians who ended their career with class without being forced to by age, infirmity, reality (losing), or legality (term limits).

An article claims the US Navy's Judge Advocate General's (JAG) Corps arrested House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on charges of "treason and seditious conspiracy." But the military branch says the allegation is false, and the website that originated the rumor regularly publishes made-up stories under the guise of satire.

"JAG Charges Nancy Pelosi with Treason, Seditious Conspiracy," says a December 3, 2022 headline from Real Raw News.

The article says: "The United States Navy Judge Advocate General's Corps on Friday filed formal charges against former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who was arrested Thursday night after attending Biden's lavish State banquet."

The man accused of attacking the husband of US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said there was "evil in Washington" and he was looking to harm Ms Pelosi because she was second in line for the presidency, a San Francisco police sergeant testified on Wednesday (local time).

Key points:
Police say the David DePape also wanted to target others including the California governor, Tom Hanks and Hunter Biden
He pleaded not guilty to federal and state charges and remains held without bail
Mr DePape allegedly told police 'they are all crazy and corrupt and we need to take them out'

The suspect, David DePape, broke into the Pelosis' San Francisco home on October 28, seeking to kidnap the speaker — who was out of town — and instead beat her 82-year-old husband, Paul Pelosi, with a hammer, authorities said.
