Following MN-Skeptic's advice, I'm picking up the threadjack from the Kyle Rittenhouse thread and bringing it hereMN-Skeptic wrote: ↑Tue Nov 01, 2022 10:14 pm I have a distinct memory of my college roommate overindulging on Mad Dog 20/20. Not good. Part of the growing up college experience.
(At this point, I guess this thread jack should move to the https://thefogbow.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1253 thread.)
My first 2 college years were spent soaked in Malt Duck and Babycham. If I was *really* wanting to get drunk, though, I'd go for Peppermint Schnapps, usually in chocolate milk or hot chocolte. My friends mostly went after beer or Southern Comfort.

I got spectacularly drunk on Southern Comfort once. I have not touched it since. Except for one time, the last time, I never really got hangovers. When I got drunk, I stayed high for days. But one hangover ended my ever drinking anything more than casually. And that was a long time ago.

Welcome to the club. It was over 30 years ago, and I have not ever touched it again. The crappy beer probably did not help.

I remember drinking peppermint schnapps with lots of ice back in college. I'm sure I had other things, but ice cold peppermint schnapps wasn't anything like vodka, for example.
At this point I only drink wine and even then it's rare. In fact, I have a bottle of wine in the fridge from before my husband passed away and that was 4½ years ago. I was going to open it when Biden was elected. I'm not sure why I didn't. Hmmm.... one of these days. It's a 2015 Beringer White Zinfandel.

A good feason to not have not opened it, is because you have more sense than the people that made it. White Zinfandel is worse than warmed over dogs piss even when its so cold you can't taste it. It is an abomination. It should be illegal.

Red wine is made from red grapes, where red is can be almost black to purple to almost burnt umber.
White wine is made from white grapes, which are green or yellow, not white.
Grape juice is basically clear no matter what grape it comes from. Red wine gets its color from the skins. The juice is left in contact with the skins after crushing to draw out the color and the tannins and other flavors that make it worthwhile. Longer contact, more color and flavor.
Rose is a wine made from red grapes that have been left in contact with the skins for only a brief period. Or sometimes a white wine has a little bit of red wine tipped in for color.
Zinfandel is a red grape. Leave the juice in contact with the skins and the juice turns red. Don't leave it in contact witn the skins and it stays clear - it also doesn't get any flavor or what wine folks cryptically call 'structure'.

Ditto. I drank Beringer White Zin for years. I gave up alcohol in March 2020 when we went on lock down.MN-Skeptic wrote: ↑Wed Nov 02, 2022 4:38 pmApparently I have no taste in wine. I can live with that assessment.
