Stephen Colbert did a monologue in which he sarcastically goaded TFG, saying things like "why would he want to appear on a nationally televised hearing, which would have the highest ratings EVER, to tell the TRUTH about January 6.

Pelosi and others in Congress, and the late-night comedians need to keep needling him like this. Perhaps, by attacking his courage and studliness, he can be goaded into actually showing up, even as his advisors tell him not to.

OTOH, if he were to appear, you have to believe that he would not feel bound by the rules of the hearing and would talk over the questioners, playing to the cameras (and therefore to his base) and otherwise trying to control the situation. If they ask him a question about Jan. 6, he will reply by bringing up Benghazi, or Hillary's emails. If they ask about the Proud Boys, he was talk about Hunter Biden.

Paul Pelosi, the husband of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, was attacked at the couple’s home in San Francisco early Friday morning, the Democratic speaker’s office said in a statement. He is expected to make a full recovery.

Drew Hammill, a spokesman for Nancy Pelosi, said the assailant is in custody and a motive is being investigated. The speaker was not in San Francisco at the time.

Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s husband, Paul Pelosi, was hospitalized after he was assaulted by someone who broke into the couple’s residence in San Francisco early on Friday morning, a spokesman for Ms. Pelosi said.

“Early this morning, an assailant broke into the Pelosi residence in San Francisco and violently assaulted Mr. Pelosi,” Drew Hammill, the spokesman, said in a statement on Friday. “The assailant is in custody and the motivation for the attack is under investigation.”

Mr. Hammill said Mr. Pelosi was expected to make a full recovery. Ms. Pelosi was not in San Francisco at the time of the attack, he said.
