So happy to hear from you Neon xoxo. Did that Corona come in handy? ;) Eager to hear from our dear Slim.

There have been 7 Cat4-5 hurricanes since 1950. Previously, it was one per decade. Now, we've had 3 in the last 5 years. But yeah climate change is a myth, idiots.

Huge rain in Orlando and around. 6" in Orlando in the past few hours and there's no ocean for it to drain out into (Orlando is landlocked). 69 mph in Daytona Beach. It's still really bad because it's soooo slow. They have another day to go through this. They really are not built for this.

Betting Ian is being retired. Interesting that so many I storms have been, the most of any letter:

Ione (1955)
Inez (1966)
Iris (2001)
Isadore (2002)
Isabel (2003)
Ivan (2004)
Ike (2008)
Igor (2010)
Irene (2011)
Ingrid (2013)
Irma (2017)

One other point: We're only at letter I at the end of September. That's incredible. Many seasons we go completely through the alphabet and have to start with Greek letters.

RV checked in, right? Not sure who else is on the west coast. Someone mentioned p0rtia may be around Florida somewhere, eager to hear from her too also.

We did hear from Lt Biscuit after her ALLEGED potty on Doug Frank's lawn. 699th released a rare statement that "Lt Biscuit was FRAMED".

There's word that the 699th has been flying all night through the storm to check on Fogbow members and to dive bomb DeSantis' governor's mansion in Tallahassee. Thank you to the 699th! :bighug:

I texted with Slim yesterday afternoon. She was going to sign off to save her phone batts. I asked her to check in "when it was over." I'm confident she's okay; Eastern Cape Coral, where she is, spent a lot of time in the eye yesterday. I don't know if there was flooding in her area, though. Haven't heard anything about her specific neighborhood. Her house is on a bit of a mound (not much, but anything helps). News has been sparse, though a surprising number of people had cell connectivity through the evening. Power is out.

Pine Island where my place is, got hit hard, especially the southern end, with a lot of devastating flooding. A lot of people stayed. Matlacha, if anybody knows where that is, is reported to be mostly under water, with reports that one of the little bridges, which leads to Pine Island, is out or washed out.

Reports that one section of the Sanibel Causeway went down. The Causeway is only a couple of miles from the southern end of Pine Island I mentioned above. Watching the maps yesterday, it looked like that area took the brunt of the eye wall.

I had a renter in my airbnb. He decamped to my manager's house. They were okay yesterday evening, though the roof was leaking. Just waiting to see if there would be storm surge on the northern end of the island (where we are). He (the renter) has a boat, so that might come in handy. No word on my place.

I texted with RV yesterday evening, and she was fine. The storm hit her area during night, so she's Innit now, but of course the ferocity of Ian is diminishing a bit, so that's good.

ETA: Confirmed: Sanibel Causeway down.

OK, sounds like everyone is (mostly) accounted for. Keep those reports coming, y'all know how I worry. :batting:

I remember when Britty was like trapped in her house for two days on the coast of NC after a hurricane. I still talk to her on Faceplant, she's doing well in jolly old.

Anyhow, now I can load the pickup with tools and head south ...

Oh, wait. I don't have a pick-'em-up truck. And I won't need tools where I'm going.

But I AM heading south to Wilmington today, delivering supplies to Numbah Two Son.

Tomorrow what's left of Ian is going to be reaching UNCW, so I can't go mañana, which was the original plan.

Two hours drive, I'll wait until morning traffic clears up.

Glad everyone seems to be OK :bighug:

I did catch a small bit of Fox & Friends before I  and changed the channel. I came in a few minutes in, but the three hosts just were enamored of what a great job DeSantis was doing. The always vile Pete Hegseth had to slide in one of his *asides* of personal viewpoint, paraphrasing here, but something like it was nice to have a leader who had a plan and knew what needed to be done. Eff him.

Huh. A little early to be calling this a DeSantis victory I would think. But whatever. I'm sure he'll own it if anything goes wrong, like flooded houses or something.

Then he'll blame it on Biden. If I see it again, I'll post here, but apparently when DeSantis was in congress he voted against additional relief after Hurricane Sandy.

I'm glad everyone seems okay.

Our weekend forecast has changed because of this storm, so we've changed plans. I'm not commenting on that because it's a personal issue for me, but to comment on the scale of this storm, considering that it's heading east and will still affect our weather. We occasionally get the last dregs of a hurricane, but that's usually when we are north or east of a storm, not when we are west of where the storm is going.

From a friend of mine in Orlando, it's true
Darcel Stevens 21h ·
For the rest of the country who has never or don’t often experienced a hurricane, we Floridians gage its severity by the attire our local TV meteorologist wears.
-Full Suit=Sunshine or Thunderstorm
-Jacket off = Severe Tropical Storm with Hurricane like forced winds.
-Shirt Cuff Rolled Back = Category 1 with sustained winds of 40mph.
Long Sleeve Shirt Rolled Up = Category 1 with good probability of increasing to Cat 2
-Necktie Removed = Category 2 with Cat 3 fast approaching!
-Unbuttons at least 3 top buttons on shirt and hair looks disheveled = OH SHIT!! Tornado warnings with sustained winds of 60mph, Category 4 is on da way!!
-Shirt Untucked, A Deadpan Look Of Fear, and Drinks Coffee “Live” On Air. = Category 5, WE’RE F**KED just kiss your az goodbye!!

Tom Terry, WFTV local weatherman cuff are folded back, HERE WE GO……

Well, at least their governor, DeSantis, was on Tucker Carlson's Fox News program last night raising money for them.

Oh wait.

He was soliciting for campaign donations.

Oh well, so sad.

Where do you even start?

Alysyn Camerotta (sp??) on CNN today showed a photo of a house she and a pal stayed at recently with some pals side by side with a photo of the same house at 4PM yesterday. Water all the way up almost to the roof.
