Wishing you a successful surgery and a speedy recovery.
Re: Suranis
I had that a few years ago. These things are pretty common. The surgeon has to take care of avoiding the nerve, but the surgery isn't painful. I had one painkiller, and that was it.
However, in my case the nerve was dinged. and gave me a lopsided smile. So for awhile I looked weird, and a rumor started that I had a stroke. But then I was given shots to numb the nerve on the other side so I didn't look so crazy while the injured nerve healed. All better now!

Will you have a kitty to keep you company during your convalescence? Hope all goes well, suranis.
Re: Suranis
Kinda. Mom wants me to stay over the weekend to take are if the cats while she is away. Snag is that my laptop chose tonight for the charger to stop working. Arrgh. I'm typing this on my phone and I hate it.Phoenix520 wrote: ↑Tue Sep 13, 2022 11:45 pm Will you have a kitty to keep you company during your convalescence? Hope all goes well, suranis.
Anyway I'm not sleeping at all tonight. Have to get up in an hour and a half to catch the train to Dublin. So I expect the anethetist will have an easy time.

Re: Suranis
Well, the surgery went fine. It's sore as hell but there was no nerve damage so everything was god there.
Listen. Hear that? You can hear a "but" can't you?
Pretty much everything else went wrong. Firstly I walked to the hospital which left me really tired. Then I had to sit there for 5 hours, fasting and with no fluids as the surgery went 5 hours late.
And then it turned out that one of the drugs in on has really really bad effects when you are fasting, and BOY I got the full treatment with the added complication that my urethea shut down probably from an after effect of the anisthetiv. I went into a KDA where my body got filled with keytone acids. I went into something like shock& screaming that I couldn't pee while desperately dehydrated with chapped lips and disorientation
They tried to put in a Catheter but initially they failed. So they got in a nurse from another ward who specialises in this stuff sent she got it through my protesting muscles.
Anyway the horrid thing is that thelrough all of it I was fully aware in the background even though I was dizzy and disorientation One doc asked me if where I was and I told him and he asked why I was at the hospital and when I described the surgery he said my mind is clear. Indeed I was apologising and saying I didn't want to be a problem patient, and they just laughed and said this was fun, otherwise the night would be boring.
So still in hospital. The keytones have cleared from my system and they are monitoring things now. Will keep you posted

Thanks for the update! So sorry to hear about the complications, but glad the surgery went well and that the post-surgical problems are clearing up. Hope you're home again soon!

Re: Suranis
Basically I'm told I went into what is called diabetic ketoacidosis. Basically it's a massive buildup of acids in the blood. I felt pain all over , thirsty, desperate urge to pee. Thing is I was badly dehydrated, but I could not pee as the anisthetic had me jammed up, so I was screaming I couldn't pee while my lips were shriveled and cracked with lack of fluid. Horrible night. I can't remember half the things that happened.
