Most of those Texas wind turbines are in North Texas. The prairies and the plains are increasingly covered with wind turbines turning above cattle or crude oil pumps.

Older daughter is rushing to get her classroom ready.

She is also organizing the house and finishing the gardening.

We have decided to get a lawn service there since once school starts our daughter won't have time and neither will her husband who has less control over his schedule than he did when he was self employed.

Texoma didn't get as much rain as DFW but did get a few inches.

Yes, a one hundred mile bicycle rally in Wichita Falls at the hottest time of the summer. They do this every year.

Good time to be on a porch on the North Fork. ;)

Very old school. I always meant to look up why they did that in the early days.

High wheelers were introduced to increase the maximum bicycle speed and do a better job of absorbing bumps.

The development of pneumatic tires and chain sprocket drives made them obsolete in the early 1890s.

The new chain driven bicycles were called "safety bicycles" because the riders could reach the ground with their feet when stopping and if they did fall the distance to the ground was much shorter than from a high wheeler. Sudden stops tended the send high wheeler riders forward over the handle bars often causing serious injuries.

The highest average speed over a 1 hour ride was achieved in the 1880s, a little over 22 mph.

Thanks. I wasn't even thinking about pneumatic tires, only those high wheelers looked insane to ride. I've fallen the normal distance and that was unpleasant enough. I did hit a ditch once and went over the handlebars. I was undamaged, but the new-ish bike was never the same after that.

Our older daughter texted us a few minutes ago. Her husband was having chest pains so they are at the emergency room. He has had some tests and been given aspirin.

May be a long night. :?

Good luck and best wishes to you and your family! I hope it turns out to be nothing serious. My husband had chest pains that sent him to the ER room once and it turned out to just be gas....

Waiting for our SIL's test results.

Current thinking seems to be that the chest pains were from esophageal spasms. May be related to an hiatal hernia that was diagnosed a few years ago. He got a liquid medicine last night. Since then he has had no chest pains.
