Re: Princess foofypants not well
I always feel a cringe when I use the smiling hug that should be weeping, as I am.
Love to Mia. And to you, Realist. I can’t imagine what you’re going through. (cringe)

Re: Princess foofypants not well
They put her on a ventilator this evening and got her intubated without any problem. They are also going to sedate her so she’s not working so hard to breathe and see how that is in the morning. The infection is still growing out culture and they’re treating that with antibiotics, obviously. They did draw the fluid off her abdomen today. 4 friggin’ liters!!! That a heck of a lot of fluid. They were hopeful that would help her breathing by relieving some pressure, and it did a little bit, but not enough.
Her blood pressure is being supported with 3 drugs and it was 107/58 when I talked to the doc. I asked about the MELD score going to 39 and the doc said right now that doesn’t matter because even if they had a liver for her they could not do the operation because she’s simply too sick. Her heart rate is about 120! They did get her in the (some special type) of dialysis which will run for 24 hours. Hopefully that helps clear the infection somewhat and helps the kidneys. She has “some” urine output but not enough. She is of course cathed and also on Lasix and another diuretic to try to get her kidneys going again, along with the hopeful assist from the dialysis.
I won’t be able to talk to her for at least 24 hours as she will be sedated for a while, perhaps 24 hours or more.
And according to doc it is too early for any kind of prognosis on anything. The main thing is the infection and the kidney function at present.

For now at least, just me.
Yeah, it’s difficult, but I’m doing “okay.” Just really miss her.

Re: Princess foofypants not well
No bad news. No miracles, but she is going mostly in the right direction.
Okay. She did well through the night. They have been able to slowly decrease the help she is getting from the ventilator. If all continues as is or better, Today or sometime tomorrow they will take her off ventilation for a trial and see how she does without it.
Her urine output has increased and is better but not normal yet. Her heart rate has returned to normal. Her BP is still low but better, and that's with removing one of the BP support meds so now on 2 rather than 3. Her infection has been steadily improving. Her lactic acid (which is how they measure it) has reduced from a 10 shortly after arrival to a 4.2 The hepatology team rounded with them this morning and ordered an additional antibiotic. She wakes when they go in to tend to her and is coherent and oriented, the slips right back to sleep due to the sedation, which they are also slowly decreasing but want to keep her comfortable. It seems to be working. That is all.
