Also too a middle finger at the government for a law that went live a few days ago, prohibiting the use of bullhorns at demonstrations.

Great take.

I don't know anything about the education situation in Britain, but I don't remember DeVos doing anything like this.
All in all, it's just another...David Lammy @DavidLammy wrote: Is it too much to ask in @BorisJohnson Britain that the new Education Minister set an example to our nations children and not show the general public her middle finger.

Wallpapergate: Leaked £200,000 list reveals Boris Johnson’s flat renovation plans included £7,000 rug and £3,675 trolley
Exclusive: Items considered by Boris Johnson and wife Carrie from Lulu Lytle include £2,260 of ‘gold wallpaper’ and a £500 table cloth

The full extent of the notorious Wallpapergate scandal seen by some as heralding the start of Boris Johnson’s downfall has been laid bare.
The Independent has obtained a leaked copy of the estimate for the renovation of the prime minister’s Downing Street flat which totals more than £200,000.
Items suggested for Mr Johnson and wife Carrie by upmarket interior designer Lulu Lytle include a £3,675 drinks trolley said to be like the one owned in Paris by ballet dancer Rudolph Nureyev and £2,260 worth of the “gold” wallpaper that Mr Johnson privately complained his wife had purchased.
Two sofas were priced at more than £15,000; £3,000 was considered for a “paint effect” for the flat hallway; and the cheapest item is a £500 kitchen table cloth.
The estimate for building works, which involved sanding the floorboards, painting and decorating, and installing new furnishings and fittings came to £30,000.

Considering the mess Boris is leaving I am surprised that any Conservative MPs want the job.

Most lacking the self awareness that would makem the realize that they are not fit for the job. Liz Truss is one of those, just having stuck over a decade in various government branches and trickeled up the food chain does not make her qualified for the position. Her current appointment would indicate she reached the top rung of the ladder as per the Peters Principle, stuck with incompetence.

I'd bet some money that Boris is going to pull a "gee look at the chaos of the Conservative party race. Completely deadlocked, total idiots I have to stay on forever too bad so sad."

he UK is bracing for its hottest day in history, with a chance temperatures could reach 40 degrees Celsius for the first time.
The country's first red extreme heat warning has been issued by the Met Office, the UK's version of the BOM.
This has triggered health warnings and left many asking what part climate change is playing in the extreme weather.
How hot is it going to be?
The red alert has been issued for Monday and Tuesday for parts of central, northern, eastern and south-eastern England.
Models show there is a 50 per cent chance of maximum temperatures in excess of 40C in isolated parts of the UK.

The race to replace Boris Johnson: Who is still in the running?
The race to replace British Prime Minister Boris Johnson as the leader of the Conservative Party is narrowing, as five contenders fight for the top job.
The pool of hopefuls will now be whittled down by July 21 through successive rounds of voting.
The final two candidates will then be put to a postal ballot of the wider Conservative Party membership.
The next prime minister will be announced on September 5 – without a national election.

Does Boris’s replacement have to come from the Conservative Party? They’ve been doing such a fine job until now , can’t the replacement come from Labour or ???

Not until a general election. The Tories still hold the majority, so they internally elect their leader who then serves as PM.Phoenix520 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 18, 2022 9:57 am Does Boris’s replacement have to come from the Conservative Party? Some percentage of the approximately 160,000-200,000 Conservative party members will vote for one of the two final candidates selected by Conservative MPs to decide who becomes the next PM.

Re: UK - England, Wales, N.Ireland, Scotland
I think the last time the PM was not the leader of their party was when Churchill became PM while Chamberlain remained as party leader until he died in October of that same year (1940). The other time before that was David Lloyd George who was part of a coalition liberal party/government and so the majority leader of the Liberal party was not PM.
Both of these happened during the World Wars.

I assume there's a method in which a faction of the Conservative party could join an opposition's motion of no confidence, which could result in a snap election.
But I presume such extreme measures will not happen here and now.
Re: UK - England, Wales, N.Ireland, Scotland
Teresa May became PM without a election when David Cameron (up till then the most useless PM in British history) fled after the Brexit Vote.

Re: UK - England, Wales, N.Ireland, Scotland
"For completeness," Members of Parliament (MPs) voted on the party's leadership. After some other candidates were eliminated in early rounds of voting, the remaining candidate (Leadsom) withdrew, and May became PM.
After being in office for around a year, May called for an election (by, yaknow, The People). The Conservative Party lost its majority in the House of Commons, and entered into a coalition government with the DUP.
Following May's resignation, Johnson was "elected" ... by Conservative Party MPs. In the popular election following Johnson's "election," the Conservative Party regained the majority in the House of Commons.
