I’m just curious as to how many Republican delegates along with all the other folks involved in attending and supporting the Republican convention are now having second thoughts about being there this summer. Some of them will be taking the threat of COVID-19 seriously. Even if they are not at high risk, they may have family members who are. Are they willing to get on an airplane? Are they willing to gather, shoulder-to-shoulder, to stroke Trump’s ego? I’m real curious to see the numbers.

I say 43 people show up, 5 of them actually looking for a ballroom dancing convention, and Der Fuhrer declares it ti largest RNC convention, ever.

Now that the G-7 meeting is not up at his FL Doral resort, why not have the Republican convention take place there. Surely individual-1 represented by the Spawns Of Trump can build missing beds as fast as impotus can build His Wall. Why not divert some government funds? And the top sponsors will be glad to have the shining light of individual-1 on them while hunkering down at Mar-a-Lago. And all those open beaches for the adventures delegates and staffers.

This was always staged drama by Trump and the RNC since the COVID hit. They've always known they're not going to have a big, splashy convention. So they make unreasonable demands, then blame it on NC. A lot of the delegates are older people. My observations IRL is that older people, even the GOP, suddenly believe in science when it comes to their own health.

While a sitting president and candidate would obviously be given a great amount of deference (especially with the current GOP and Trump), I somehow suspect that he does not realize that he is not actually in charge of the convention. The final decision for the location would be up to the Republican National Committee if I am not mistaken. It is currently led by Mitt Romney's niece.

Obviously, the GOP will do anything Trump dictates, so my above paragraph is moot.

Given that contracts have already been signed between vendors and the NRC. There will be lawsuits galore if the RNC pulls out.

Climax, MI? The only large facility is the gym at the small Climax-Scotts High School but a small crowd will look biggly that way.
Edit: As an added bonus, it is a relatively short straight shot from the Battle Creek Kellogg Airport and the runways are large enough to handle Air Force One. It is not a commercial airport but they have the Air National Guard and the Western Michigan University aviation students can go take AF1 out for a spin while Trump is impressing the crowd, and crops.

So Kemp is pushing for Georgia but what city other than Atlanta could handle such a soiree? (Sorry, Georgians, only familiar with Atlanta and Savannah, which are both liberal, democratic cities, aren't they?) So what power does the mayor of, say, Atlanta have if Kemp decides to push the convention off on them? I ask because my trip to KC for a comicon was cancelled last March, not because of their idiot governor gave a damn, but because of the KC mayor shutting all that down.

Gosh, it would be awful sad if they can't find a viable alternative in time.

I think it would be really terrible if they can't find a location willing to have 50,000 MAGAts, none of them wearing masks or doing social distancing, with the additional risk (now) of tens of thousands of protesters converging on the venue. What city wouldn't want a horde of violent plague-spreading zealots for a few days in August?

There is an Arizona Sheriff, to be exact ex-Sheriff, that can engage in an advisory roll to house delegates in tent cities ;) Considering what impotus did for him, he ought to do this pro bonobo bono

Athens, Macon, Milledgeville & Albany mayors are all Dem, so they're out. Also Albany has one of the highest per capita COVID infections rates for the state, and per capita deaths are one of the highest in the US.

Valdosta could be, Rep mayor, 56K population, large local sporting arenas, Moody AFB is 10 miles away, Delta flies to local airport and has an Amtrak station.

My city in mid GA could also be in the mix, Rep mayor, local military base, and as a bonus our regional airport held one of President Plague's Nuremberg rallies about a year and a half ago....

Yeah; I had that thought as well.

Obviously it would take research into who owns which stadiums, state/local distancing rules, etc. But it seemed like the natural solution for a nominee intent on a spectacle.

Cf. Obama's 2008 acceptance speech was held in Mile High Stadium Empower Field at Mile High, which is owned a municipal company.

Yabbut everybody knows people don't go to conventions to do business. They go to party and get laid. And if the sex workers prefer social distancing to coming in contact with old fat MAGAts and their junk, why bother even making the trip?
