So the volunteer fire department carnivals have begun! This week the carnival is in Greenport. It will be here in about 3 weeks. It will move from hamlet to hamlet until early September.
I love VFD carnivals!

It is the July 4th weekend.

Temperatures are in the 80s.

Roads are starting to jam up.

Mrs. V and our daughters are off to Greenport while the traffic is merely heavy.

I've spent the morning writing financial reports for tomorrow's annual meeting of the homeowners association.

Our neighbor to the west has returned from a week long visit to family in California.

So far private fireworks have been few. I hope that continues.

Traffic in and around NYC is crawling.

Out here major roads are filling up. Weather forecast for tonight and tomorrow for the East End is for rain. That may encourage some to delay their drives east tonight.

Mrs. V's cousin from upstate mowed the Circle earlier this afternoon after a rainy morning. Rain is back so the mowing has stopped.

Saturday afternoon and evening looks to be a washout. :(

Next really good weather looks to be on Monday the 4th when everyone will start heading home including our daughters.

We have gone from rain to RAIN!

Mrs. V, our daughters and the cats have taken over the living room and the TV.

I am keeping an eye on the rain.

Lots of spoiled NoFo barbecues this evening.

Intense lightning and thunder.

Two more rounds of rain have passed and fireworks have started. :(

These sound to be smaller private displays. Bangs but not rolling BOOMS.

Tomorrow night will likely be much worse because those will be large official municipal displays designed to impress taxpayers using the taxpayers' money. ;)

Might mention that at the time of the Revolutionary War most North Forkers were loyalists unlike those radicals in Boston and Philadelphia. ;)

I just heard a private one hear that startled the crap out of me. I was hoping for fewer here. It's dangerously dry.

This quiet Sunday morning the Circle has quite a number of children staying all of whom are related to Mrs. V one way or another. ;)

These are the children/grandchildren of the children who were running around the Circle when I first met Mrs. V.

I have known members of 6 generations of Mrs. V's family.

The skies have cleared. The sun is out. Traffic is heading east. Lawnmowers are mowing.

Local Oldies radio station is touting this evening's weather as perfect for fireworks. :(

The four of us went to our favorite restaurant for lunch. Mrs. V and our daughters now are taking a walk. I am on the porch digesting.

Lawnmowers in at least 4 directions. Loud nearby lawnmowers.

Oldies station now reporting on heavy eastbound traffic on the South Fork.

Sag Harbor having an evening festival starting at 5pm with fireworks at 9pm.

Meanwhile on the North Fork the Greenport Fire Department Carnival ends this evening with fireworks.

What with yesterday being a washout and tomorrow being the drive home evening everyone is trying to get their July 4th activities (which include a lot of ceremonial lawnmowing ;) ) today.

It is quiet again as the lawnmowers are having their dinners and it is not yet dark enough for fireworks.

In a couple of hours I expect it to sound like a battlefield outside. :(

The traffic on Main Road is now light so I assume that most NoFo 4th partiers are already here.

Daughters and Mrs. V are catching up on "Eastenders". Cats are napping.

After a dinner of leftovers, I am on the porch listening to the Oldies Station's 4th of July coverage.

Another local shark attack from last week has been reported.

A dog is barking to our north.
