Now that the weekend is over the chilly rainy weather is past and it is sunny and warm.

The weather gods have not smiled on North Fork tourism this past weekend.

However we retirees are enjoying a quiet still Monday morning. The weekenders are gone. It is still too wet to mow after last night's rain. What passes for rush hour here is over.

A pleasant evening or would be if the dogs to the west weren't outside and barking.

Beautiful evening but for the lawnmower to the south.

Since when do lawnmowers have headlights? :confuzzled:

It is the weekend and the lawnmowers are doing their thing. :(

Unlike Europe the weather is cool here, 69F. Not beach weather but I imagine the wineries and breweries are doing well.

Cornell University's NY Farmnet has been advertising mental health services on the local Oldies radio station to North Fork farmers. Talks about dealing with the "new normal".

Apparently we are having a bit of a local agricultural crisis. :? I have seen reports about a shortage of seasonal workers.

Our older daughter traveling with Mrs. V in France has made a fast recovery from the Covid.

However they have suffered repeatedly from missing trains due to their first train of the day being late.

Glad she's feeling better. Traveling arrangements can be like dominoes. When they fall, they can fall splendidly. I know from personal experience. :cantlook:

Today they aren't traveling so things are calmer. They did a Duo call earlier to show us the spectacular views from a chateau they are visiting in Tours.

American Airlines will stop all service to Long Island MacArthur Airport starting in September.

Our older daughter won't be able to fly here starting from the Wichita Falls airport anymore. She'll have to go overland to Dallas first to get on Southwest. :(

So if it is finally summer why am I wearing a flannel shirt and heavy blue jeans?

The center of the country is hogging all the warmth! ;)

Currently 60F and raining. Summer? Bah humbug. ;)

Younger daughter, the baseball fan, is inside watching baseball on cable. I am bundled up on the porch pretending the weather is nice. Mrs. V and older daughter are tasting wine in Bordeaux.

I need to plan my summer better. ;)

Rain has ended.

Getting a bit of sunshine as the sun sets.

As soon as the rain stopped the lawnmowers started. :(

Might get up to lower 70s tomorrow. Glad I don't depend on beach goers for my income. ;)

Younger daughter sad because Mets lost to the Astros. :(

Mrs.V and older daughter report that Bordeaux wines are still of high quality even compared to North Fork wines. ;)

Just want to note that on the North Fork LIV means Long Island Vodka which has nothing to do with sports or Saudi Arabia. :fingerwag:

One more long time NoFo farm sells out to become a winery.

Northport’s Del Vino Vineyards purchases Krupski Farm in Riverhead

https://northforker.com/2022/06/northpo ... riverhead/
Northport’s Del Vino Vineyards has purchased the 30-acre Krupski Farm in Riverhead.

The group plans to transform the Krupski property between Sound Avenue and Northville Turnpike, which has been farmed since 1966, into vineyards.

“We believe in building a wine company that invests back into the community and the industry that it’s a part of,” said Del Vino Vineyard co-owner Fred Giachetti in a statement. “Bringing the Krupski Family Farm into our portfolio shifts us toward having the majority of our production coming from our own vineyards, which is a huge part of our long-term vision. The vineyard management team at Del Vino Vineyards has done an exceptional job of maintaining an eye on quality, and we’re incredibly excited about our expansion.”

Added co-owner Lisa Giachetti, “The Krupski Farm presents an opportunity for us to serve our existing fans in a new location, but it will also allow us to attract and engage new customers in the Long Island wine country region, which is an exciting proposition. We’re thrilled to be growing our Del Vino acreage and our staff with this acquisition.”

Del Vino plans to open a tasting room on the site. This will increase traffic in that area which is already heavy. (Krupski does not have a sales facility at that location.) It will also reduce the local pumpkin supply. ;)

When I first started coming out here in 1976 in pursuit of the future Mrs. V there were no wineries. It was mostly potatoes. Then cheap Idaho potatoes happened. The potato farmers started selling out and the winemakers started buying in. Now it is mostly wineries and breweries.

Today our daughters spent most of the day down at the beach while Mrs.V went to the doctor (for a very minor problem) and then hit the food stores to restock after our younger daughter and I ate most everything while she and older daughter were in France. ;) Happily Mrs. V's shopping genes weren't worn out by her French trip. ;)

I stayed at the cottage just in case anything happened there (nothing did ;) ).

Weather was perfect today but some sort of noisy construction just to the west made sitting on the porch unpleasant most of the day. :( Things are finally quiet.

Schools are now closed here for the summer. I am already sick of hearing the song "School's Out for Summer" on the local Oldies radio station. ;)

So the volunteer fire department carnivals have begun! This week the carnival is in Greenport. It will be here in about 3 weeks. It will move from hamlet to hamlet until early September.
