Awesome thread.

I loathe how wedding parties and photographers take over public spaces with no regard for anyone else.
My dad retired from the wedding photo biz 25 years ago..I'm a church musician who has played many weddings. Wedding photographers are not my favorite.
Let's just say the current crop doesn't quite do it the way he did - for 45 years..

Re: Hijack This Thread
One saved the day at my brother's wedding. They had rehearsed with mothers coming forward, taking a light from the candelabras and lighting their family candles. However, somebody neglected to inform the ushers or assign the role, that the candelabras needed to be lit. Mothers came forth to light candles from unlit candles. The photographer was up there so pulled out his lighter and saved the wedding. It did not, however, save the marriage (which actually turned out to be a very good thing).tek wrote: ↑Mon Jun 27, 2022 10:53 amI loathe how wedding parties and photographers take over public spaces with no regard for anyone else.My dad retired from the wedding photo biz 25 years ago..I'm a church musician who has played many weddings. If you know of wedding photographers, please let them know that organists are not barroom piano players and we do not like playing 20 questions while trying to play the prelude. Also, don't move stuff around in a way that blocks the organist's view (to the entrance, and the altar area).
Yeah, the tripod on my organ bench? That' ain't gonna work.
ETA: To be completely fair, there are some organists who can be raging assholes. I have checked my tongue once or twice in organist FB groups.

about 50 years ago or so, a friend of mine who was a Border Patrol agent found, I think it was 16 dead bodies and found 8 or 9 survivors near an abandoned truck in the middle of the desert near the Arizona/Sonora Border. The coyotes had just driven the truck across the border and abandoned it and its the human cargo in 100+ degrees without water.

One more goodbye kiss, and one more client meeting to attend. Then my exit interview. I'm not even going to pack a lunch.

Re: Hijack This Thread
I was notified today that my eldest son is getting married tomorrow. No hoopla, just a Justice of the Peace and get it done kind of thing. She’s ummm, an Interesting choice, but they’ve been together now over 15 years so there it is. She’s had 4 children, not that she ever had custody of any of them for very long. And she’s been fixed since her last one came along, thankfully long before my son did. I will be there and hug them both on their happy day. I do love my son very much so I wish the very best for them both!

“Life inside the Dutch earthquake zone”:
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-61901033
“The gas that made the Netherlands rich has left towns and villages falling apart. Extraction of this rich resource from the northern region of Groningen has caused thousands of earthquakes and reduced entire neighbourhoods to building sites resembling disaster zones. It was meant to end in 2024, but now the war in Ukraine means even that hope is crumbling.”

Retirement Day 1 -
I'm up early because I'm recovering from yesterday.
The only thing my retirement party lacked was a wet bar. Company policy. I knew there were going to be a few people because of the venue (local hotel / conference center). I was not expecting this many. I think I outnumbered the Trump inauguration by this much (fingers pinched together). Holy Cow Batman. I was overwhelmed. I have a stack of cards I haven't opened yet. I have a lot of thank you notes to write. I had to really keep it together to not cry when speaking to them. And all the stories people told from our times together. (face palm) Some of them I had forgotten (the stories, not the people).
I was absolutely humbled by it all. Still am. A career well spent.
