Fire!
Re: Fire!
Late this morning, high winds and low relative humidity (2%) led to a wild land fire about a mile from our house in a wetland area that is mostly dry due to drought. That wetland area, the Sand Creek valley, continues north until it is just a few blocks from our house. Fortunately, the CSFD was able to keep it to twenty-eight acres but there are still evacuation orders in effect while they make sure there are no hot spots.
Another fire that was reported just a few minutes later destroyed eight mobile homes in a mobile home park.
So far, there are no reports of human injuries.

And so another season with forest fires across the State is upon us with air getting very smoky around here. The Minto Lakes fire which has burned near 7,000 acres jumped the Chatanika river today and is now just across from us as we’re on the other side of Murphy Dome. We currently have 150 active fires last 24 hours and 58 new fires Statewide and over 1.3 million acres burned.
Once again getting supplies and gear packed as with 543 lightning strikes TODAY it’s getting close.
