In honor of the Stars topic, I bring some more Ēriks Ešenvalds with his song, Stars for choir and tuned wine glasses.

Again, he used a text by Sara Teasdale (the text below follows the usage in the music, not the original text).
Alone in the night
On a dark hill
With pines around me
Spicy and still,

And a heaven full of stars
Over my head
White and topaz
And misty red;

Myriads with beating
Hearts of fire
The aeons
Cannot vex or tire;

Up the dome of heaven
Like a great hill
And Myriads with beating
Hearts of fire
heaven full of stars
heaven full of stars

And I know that I
Am honored to be
Witness
Of so much majesty.

Part of my Ash Wednesday and early Lent binge listening is to various versions of Miserere Mei, Deus (Have mercy upon, oh God - Psalm 51). My favorite and probably one of my favorite choral pieces is Miserere Mei, Deus by Gregorio Allegri. I could listen to this one over and over and over and over again, and I have.

While I don't have numbers for this piece during our Ash Wednesday service yesterday, I adapted it and played it on the organ during the imposition of ashes. I got many thankful comments from those in the church and those online.

Beautiful! I shared both with my twin sister! We have memories of growing up listening to the choir directed by our mother. :biggrin:

Beautiful piece, pjhimself. Thanks for posting that!

There's a gorgeous acoustic piece by Alex Lifeson from Rush. It's short, but well worth a listen!

Wikipedia: Mary Lou Williams

Wikipedia: The Zodiac Suite
Most pieces in the suite were dedicated to or influenced by other performers and their star sign.[13][14] "Aries" was for Ben Webster and Billie Holiday; "Taurus" for Duke Ellington; "Gemini" for Shorty Baker; "Cancer" for Lem Davis; "Leo" for Vic Dickenson; "Libra" for Art Tatum, Dizzy Gillespie, Bud Powell, Thelonious Monk, Charlie Parker and John Coltrane; "Scorpio" for Ethel Waters, Katherine Dunham and Al Lucas; "Sagittarius" for Eddie Heywood; "Capricorn" for Pearl Primus and Frankie Newton; "Aquarius" for Josh White and Eartha Kitt; and "Pisces" for Al Hall and Barney Josephson.
...
Zodiac Suite was considered novel in jazz music when it was first performed, both thematically and musically, due to its references to and use of classical music. The work's symphonic nature makes it a precursor to the third stream genre which combines jazz and classical music. Writer Richard Lawn described the combination of jazz and classical as "unique and ground breaking". The black community viewed the suite as an accomplishment when it was first performed, and one journalist said the Carnegie Hall concert "completely eroded the whites-only barrier to the Carnegie Hall stage." Both Lawn and the Encyclopedia of African American Music view the suite as a breakthrough for women composers. Ben Ratliff called Zodiac Suite "beautifully coherent" and noted the strong feminine expression in the "unmacho" music
"The Zodiac Suite" was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2020

I have an obsession with this song, which is about a record producer kissing his girlfriend as seen from the studio, but when I heard Bowie sing this for my first time I was on my orientation tour of the West/East German border as a US Army member in 1985 and it struck a cord that has lasted for 35+ years. Depp does an acceptable vocal:

A better one, Mr. Krinkle...

I play bass guitar, and I could never do this with a double bass no matter how much I worked at it...

Love Les, and Primus, but I haven't seen him do what Stanley does starting at about 5:10 in this video:
