Yes, I know what a savant is but in practical usage it seems more associated with the syndrome. I’d have said genius. Less ambiguous. But isn’t everyone’s kid a genius?

Interesting, I always think of Marilyn vos Savant when I see that word, so associate it with 'learned person'.

Well, it's a bit of both. Her father was Joseph Mach, her mother was Marina vos Savant. She was born Marilyn Mach, but apparently felt that sons should take their father's surnames, and daughters should take their mother's birth names (especially since in her case it fed into her 'highest recorded IQ' nicely). Savant was listed in the Guinness Book of World Records under "Highest IQ" from 1985 to 1989.
