I think the bigger issue is the subject. Most mugshots you see you have folks who were arrested somewhere, cuffed, tossed into the back of a squad car, sat around, got to the jail, sat around among a bunch of other folks in holding (and some of them were probably not enjoyable company), and then eventually run through the process, likely rather roughly. They really have no interest in posing nicely and sitting up and the person booking them was probably in a hurry. Oh yeah, some of them may still have been heavily self-medicated or less than sober.
This group skipped to the front of the line, and given their position in life, among other considerations, the booking officers likely were nicer to them than the standard ones being booked. These are officers who are interacting with many well-known political people this week. They are likely to treat them differently and likely not intentionally. They could easily get a bit star-struck. I have to remember not to assume my thinking on somebody else as even if they do not agree with the politics, they have famous people in front of their camera.
