Funny, trump didn’t sound like a winner in his statement.

Edit: I too strongly suspect that this was a compromise verdict.
Agree, but Ms. Carroll testified that she was not certain that Trump penetrated her with his penis, in part because she could not see it. She was certain about other details of the assault, though.
Ah, I had missed (or forgotten) that significant detail.
And the 2 other accusers, Jessica Leeds and Natasha Stoynof, both also testified to digital penetration.

And that’s what Trump himself referenced on the Access Hollywood tape.

I don’t believe this was a compromise verdict in any way. I think the jury acted conscientiously and decided they couldn’t be certain there was a preponderance of evidence for rape, as defined by genital penetration, but they could be for the battery by sexual abuse.

Kudos to them for their careful consideration.

So nice for Trump that he is merely being called a sexual batterer and not a rapist.

Well........ Ok.

MSNBC said her testimony was that she believed he went from digital to genital penetration, but she could not be sure because he was behind her and so out of her sight line.

IMO she was honest and careful in her testimony. I think the jury took that seriously, especially since neither the other 2 accusers nor Trump’s remarks ever referenced genital rape.

Unfortunately, he wasn't convicted of anything at all. Civil cases don't end with convictions.

He was found liable by a jury for sexual battery and defamation in a civil case. He attacked a woman in a department store in NYC, smashing her into a wall and assaulting her sexually, and then lied about it afterward. I think that's the worst we can legitimately say about him, but the lawyers here will probably refine it.

On the bright side, he can go to rallies now and tell them he's the first and greatest president that a jury ever said was a liar and a sexual predator. Obviously all the jurors are lunatic leftist deranged Trump haters, so the verdict is just plain wrong.

'Course, he doesn't even know who she is, the implication being that he normally only sexually attacks women he knows fairly well, so it's probably all a big mistake. He wouldn't sexually attack a complete stranger, even though that's what he told Billy Bush he did, and that deposition ...

It's all very confusing, but I'm sure he'll be happy to join the Republican debates before the primaries now, 'cuz he got some 'splainin' to do.

I heard on 3 different news shows after the verdict that one of the women on the jury was a "proud, public MAGA" and that she even brought her MAGA hat and left it in the car. Sort of hard to spin that as nothing but liberal Dems on the jury.

Ah, so she was:

1. A woman, and

2. A proud MAGAt.

Definitely some potential for conflict there. I think maybe I can guess which one is more important to her, or was today.

This case pretty much featured men on one side and women on the other. :towel:

Andrew Weisman on Deadline WH today - he reminded us that on one of Manafort's trials one juror was a die-hard MAGA, but she left he hat in the car and did what duty required and left politics on the side.

I'm pretty sure they didn't. Leeds I think testified that he got his hand up her skirt, but I don't think he got any farther. Stoynof, I'm pretty sure no.
