1/Before everyone gets too spun up about reports Judge Cannon has been assigned to the Trump case, a little law. I used to be an appellate chief in the 11th Circuit (where Florida is) and I litigated a few appeals where we asked the court of appeals to order a judge to recuse.

Why bother? He has secret service protection so the feds will know where he is at all times anyway, and I don't think the secret service is going to help him avoid the law.

Trump is changing lawyers again for the docs case. He is looking for Florida lawyers willing to sufferer permanent reputational damage and disbarment, scorn and ridicule, dealing with an impossible client who won’t listen, without being paid. Call Junior.

He corrupts everything he touches. My solution would be to reassign every one of his SS detail and replace them with agents who detest trump.

The indicted co-conspirator. Another person’s life wrecked doing the bidding of the mob boss. When will they ever learn.

"Multiple Sources" could be Trump and his lawyers, or some trolls trying to cause some hand wringing for lulz.

There is going to be no real news on this till Tuesday. Everything else till then is networks trying to fill airtime with crap.

FLASH: Trump attorneys Jim Trusty and John Rowley:

"This morning we tendered our resignations as counsel to President Trump, and we will no longer represent him on either the indicted case or the January 6 investigation.."

(MORE) "...It has been an honor to have spent the last year defending him, and we know he will be vindicated in his battle against the Biden Administration’s partisan weaponization of the American justice system...."

Was this from this morning's show? That was quick.

WASHINGTON, June 9 (Reuters) - Two lawyers representing former U.S. President Donald Trump, who was federally indicted for illegally retaining classified documents, obstruction and other crimes, have resigned, according to a statement released Friday.

"This morning we tendered our resignations as counsel to President Trump, and we will no longer represent him on either the indicted case or the January 6 investigation," according to the joint statement from Jim Trusty and John Rowley.

Judge Aileen Cannon, a Trump appointee, initially assigned to oversee his case: Sources
Cannon faced scrutiny for her prior role in the investigation.

The summons sent to former President Donald Trump and his legal team late Thursday indicates that U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon will be assigned to oversee his case, at least initially, according to sources briefed on the matter.

Cannon's apparent assignment would add yet another unprecedented wrinkle to a case involving the first federal charges against a former president: Trump appointed Cannon to the federal bench in 2020, meaning that, if Trump is ultimately convicted, she would be responsible for determining the sentence – which may include prison time – for the man who elevated her to the role.

Most problematic for Trump from a legal team perspective is that he has not yet been able to retain defense counsel specializing in national security law/espionage act. Todd Blanche is an excellent criminal lawyer, but not a national security lawyer.

Also too
Trump said on his Truth Social platform that his former military valet, Walt Nauta, had been charged in the case. Nauta went to work at Trump's Mar-a-Lago resort after working in the Trump White House. It was unclear what his charges were.

Nauta's lawyer, Stanley Woodward, declined to comment. A spokesperson for Special Counsel Jack Smith, who is leading the prosecution, could not be reached immediately.

Nauta "served proudly with me in the White House, retired as Senior Chief, and then transitioned into private life as a personal aide," Trump wrote on Truth Social.

Judge Aileen Cannon, a Trump appointee, initially assigned to oversee his case: Sources
If accurate, folx on the bird site are speculating the DOJ will seek to recuse her.

Because unlike most this-judge-sucks-eggs recusals, Cannon's appearance of partiality is directly related to this case. It was this case that led to the 11th Circuit's smackdown.
