In the USA personal data outside of certain very limited cases, such as HIPAA data is regarded as a commodity to be bought and sold with minimal to zero oversight or controls. Which is why when US firms try to do the same in the EU or UK they get vigorously slapped under GDPR or DPA2018 (see Facebook and Schrems I, II and III)

Considering that a lot of EU drivers licences or national ID cards also show a LOT of biometric or information from which racial or ethnic origin can be inferred, it falls under "special category data" rules which would be a double extra no no without even more controls.....

Thanks, Mr brolin. Yes, US laws are crazy and ineffective. It's exciting to see Musk continue his antics, tho ...

Some jerk* has learned it is illegal under German law to call someone a "whore," which includes "attention whore."

But the punishment is just not displaying that content in Germany.
Edit: And removing the offending txweet

Most of Europe included, it enters the sphere of defamation, can get prosecuted on request. The publisher, not only the author, may get in trouble too if such a post is not taken down after notice. Monitoring forums is near required. US style of free speech does not apply. Even police officers on duty may file in court for getting called derogatory names.

Twitter has closed the loophole that allowed a user to access TweetDeck, aka X-pro without paying a bribe. I will not be using Twitter except to follow links to individual Tweets. Now that Threads has released a desktop version I am hoping they eventually come up with a "ThreadsDeck" interface.

How do you get the Threads desktop version?

Just an FYI - Desktop Threads may not be ready for prime time yet.

@atrupar
PRO: Threads has a desktop version now. Great!

CON: It's a huge mess! Videos routinely won't post and often don't have sound. I've pretty much given up trying to use it.

Thx for the warning. I’ll wait.

Honestly, since I left Twitter and rarely engage Facebook, I sleep better.

Interesting. I did that, and after I entered my credentials, it sent me to a page to either scan a square, or click to go to either the Apple or Android stores. I can't scan something that's displaying on my laptop WITH my laptop, and I don't need the Apple or Android versions. If I close the screen (which is the only other option) I'm right back at the login screen. Guess it'll be a bit longer before I can try to join in the fun.... :(

Keep trying. I think it took a day or two for me to get in. This is what I see:

I ended up downloading the android app to my phone and setting up my account there and now I can log in to the desktop version.

Thanks !!

Saw a new suggested nickname for the app formerly known as Twitter:

TwiX.

I know, it's taken.

But I like it.

I just can't. I can't go from Musk to Zuckerberg, goddammit. That's against my religion.

When is there gonna be a real alternative? I dunno

But I have faith in the future. New stuff emerges every day. I just have to be patient. I suppose I should create an account at Threads, just because. Because why?

This is why I still don't have an account. Zuckerberg should be in prison, not benefiting from my participation on his goddamned website. Even if it does work better than Twitter, excuse me, X. My niece only uses Instagram, that's how we roll. But I don't know if she'll do Threads. We'll see.

So...

I've been referring to the messaging site formerly known as "Twitter" as "Xitter". I pronounce it "shitter".

Somebody just referred to posts on that site as "Xcrement". Which I thought was perfect.

Is this a thing or is it just me?

Does anyone have a spare invite code to blue sky? I thought I’d made an account there but they have no idea who I am.

I think I suggested the Xcrement thing on Xitter. Others have too.

So for the last few days the AntiSemitic rhetoric has been ramping up on whatever Elon is calling his pile. And Elon has been jumping in.

Now this… he blames the Anti Defamation League for falling ad revenue and he’s gonna sue.

Well, like TFG, he's going to "sue". Because, like TFG, discovery might cause him problems.
